Huawei organized the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) P2413 working group meeting at its headquarters in Shenzhen and presented two types of proposals. There, the company described specially designed functionality to support communication services, as well as scenarios and requirements for a smart campus, a smart airport, and a smart city intelligent control center (IoC).

“We strive to build a digital world where everything is interconnected, where every person, every family, and every organization has new opportunities,” said Liu Min, Director of Industry Solution at Huawei Enterprise, in his welcome speech. – We believe the future belongs to smart cities! Using the Internet of Things, cloud computing and other innovative technologies to build them will create an efficient ecosystem and ensure the availability of information.

Huawei experts believe that video services will become one of the basic components of smart cities. The number of video services will grow, so it is necessary to develop appropriate standards in a timely manner. Therefore, Huawei has proposed a system architecture, describing the requirements of scenarios related to video and convergent communication services.

The participants discussed the video analytics functionality proposal in detail, and the IEEE P2413 working group decided to send a Liaison Statement to the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) to join efforts in developing a standardized northbound interface based on an open protocol.

The second type of proposal details three scenarios: intelligent control center (IoC) for smart city, smart campus and smart airport, based on which the relevant requirements for Platform as a Service (PaaS) are formed. Huawei’s proposal was unanimously approved by the participants and recommended for inclusion in the project.

Oleg Logvinov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the IEEE PLC-IoT IC, suggested that a one-day forum dedicated to the topic of smart cities be included in the program of the next meeting. This would make it possible to involve representatives of city administrations, as well as companies working in this field, in the discussion and to discuss the requirements and architectural features of smart cities.
