NFC and bluetooth: advantages and disadvantages
How does NFC compare to other wireless technologies? One might question whether this type of wireless data transmission and reception is actually necessary, since Bluetooth has been around for quite some time. However, there are differences between the two standards. In some cases, they provide NFS with noticeable advantages.
One of the main advantages is that this technology, when compared with Bluetooth, is more beneficial in terms of energy consumption. For passive devices, NFC is an ideal solution because they can operate without a separate power source. But therein lies a drawback: NFS is significantly inferior to Bluetooth in terms of transmission range.
If the NFS range is only 10 cm, then via Bluetooth you can transfer data over a distance of up to 10 meters or more. Another disadvantage is that NFS is slower than BT. The maximum data transfer rate is only 424 kbps, compared to 2.1 Mbps for Bluetooth version 2.1 or 1 Mbps for Bluetooth Low Energy.
However, where NFC is significantly superior to its competitor is connection speed. The speed advantage comes from inductive coupling and no need for manual pairing. The connection between two devices takes less than one tenth of a second.
Android Pay, Samsung Pay and even Apple Pay use NFC technology. But Bluetooth should be chosen when a connection is established between phones or tablets to transfer files, connect accessories and much more. It’s safe to say that NFC will always occupy its niche in this world thanks to mobile payments – the fastest growing modern technology.
Owners of Huawei smartphones will be able to pay for purchases using the pay wallet service
HUAWEI announces that the contactless payment service Wallet Pay has become available on the new flagships of the HUAWEI P40 series – for the start of their pre-order in the Russian market. The service works in the Wallet application (developed by the St. Petersburg technology company Cardsmobile), which can already be downloaded from the AppGallery application store. In the future, the Wallet will be pre-installed on all HUAWEI flagships, and later on other models presented on the Russian market. The contactless payment function of the Wallet application will be available to users from April 10. 1
Owners of HUAWEI smartphones will be able to load MasterCard cards into the application 2
40 partner banks, such as VTB, Alfa-Bank, Raiffeisenbank, Tinkoff, Otkritie, Rosselkhozbank and others, for convenient and secure payment for purchases around the world – wherever contactless cards are accepted. Payment will be made in one touch using NFC technology.
Users will also be able to transfer discount cards from their favorite stores to Wallet or issue new cards directly in the application, immediately in a mobile format. You can receive discounts by showing the card from your smartphone screen at the checkout in the country’s largest retail chains – service partners: X5 Retail Group, M. Video, O’KEY, Adidas Group, kari, VkusVill, Metro Cash & Carry, Lamoda, United Colors of Benetton and others.
Wallet is the largest mobile application in Russia for storing bank and discount cards, as well as coupons and gift certificates. There are 12 million Russian customers registered in the application, who have already transferred more than 190 million cards to the application.
Contactless payment service Pay Wallet operates on the basis of its own tokenization platform, certified according to the security standards of international payment systems.
“We are very pleased to cooperate with HUAWEI, as together we make the lives of customers easier – literally and figuratively. The Wallet application provides a convenient way to make contactless payments for purchases, makes it easier to get discounts in stores and saves users from annoying plastic. We are inspired by the idea that the smartphone is increasingly transforming into a digital analogue of a regular wallet and strives to completely replace plastic and paper media. We are glad that now owners of smartphones of the HUAWEI and HONOR brands will be able to collect all the necessary cards in one application and receive additional benefits from our partners – both banks and retailers,” said Kirill Gorynya, CEO of Cardsmobile.
“Partnering with Cardsmobile is an important step in building a mature local HUAWEI ecosystem. The pre-installed Wallet app offers users not only a safe and secure payment platform, but also a tool for easily solving various everyday tasks. We will continue to actively interact with Russian partners in the future to offer our users a seamless ecosystem adapted to the characteristics of a particular region,” said Leo Lee, President of the HUAWEI brand in Russia and the region.
The AppGallery app store covers more than 170 countries and regions, serving more than 600 million HUAWEI and HONOR users. Since the official launch of AppGallery in April 2021, the number of monthly active users of the system has exceeded 400 million.

- After installation is complete, launch the program and go through the registration procedure. To do this, you will need a card from Sberbank.
The procedure for adding a card is done as follows:
It will take a little time for the system to verify the linked card. As soon as the procedure is completed, a notification about this will appear on the screen. After this, you can return to the main page of the application and start using your smartphone as a payment tool for purchases or services.
A few more important points:
- The SberPay application must be enabled “by default”. Otherwise, you will have to activate it yourself each time to pay;
- If the system writes that it cannot verify the card binding and asks you to try in five minutes, then you should not get upset and panic ahead of time – this is a fairly common problem. Usually it is solved with several attempts to bind the plastic to the smartphone;
- For now, you can link a Visa bank card to the SberPlay application. Unfortunately, the attempt to bind the World will not yet lead to a positive result. But bank representatives promise that they will try to add this option, as well as MasterCard. It is planned that Mir and Mastercard will work through this program in the fall of 2020. But it is not exactly;
- At the moment, this software operates on smartphones that only run on Android operating systems;
- In some situations, to make a payment, you will need to turn on the Internet on your phone. This is due to restrictions that are sometimes encountered with the Visa system.
You can pay for purchases or services using SberPlay software in any terminal that has contactless payment functionality. The payment procedure itself is as follows:
- The owner of a smartphone with the software installed activates NFC (see screenshots) and brings the device to the terminal.
- To confirm the money transfer, enter a code or attach a fingerprint.
- After the amount to be written off appears on the screen, you need to bring your smartphone to the terminal again.
