Huawei Honor 5X – review of the “average” with the ambitions of a flagship

Design and construction

Externally, the device is a kind of mixture of Honor 7, Huawei G8 and HTC One M8/M9. The design features of the flagship Honor 7 are traced, the location of the camera, flash and scanner are related to the G8, but the back panel was clearly created with a glance at the Taiwanese competitors. Here a special processing of the metal back panel with a grinding effect is used.

It looks and feels smoother than the usual matte, rough surface. It may remind some people of inexpensive aluminum thermoses, but not others. It is more susceptible to external influences and scratches, as well as to fingerprints and dirt. The angular shape of the body while maintaining the same size display (quality 5.5″ Full HD IPS panel) is a disadvantage against the smoother and more rounded G8, which is noticeably better in the hands. Honor 5X feels larger and more massive, although it is not. The only thing in which the 5X is larger than the G8 is its thickness.

The power and volume buttons are conveniently located. The Honor 5X was the first device in the lineup that received not one hybrid SIM card slot (allowing the use of two SIM cards or one memory card), but two separate slots – one for two nano-SIMs with 4G, and another for a microSD card. The location of ports and speakers is standard.

The smartphone’s assembly is traditionally high for Huawei, nothing sags or wobbles. Two colors of the smartphone are available for sale – silver and gold, both look nice and will suit both men and women. We would like to note one not so pleasant moment: our sample had a glued protective film on the screen, but according to the reviews of smartphone owners the commercial devices are deprived of it, and boasting an excellent oleophobic layer their screens can not. It’s a pity if so, because the display itself is very good, with excellent viewing angles and sufficient maximum brightness.
