HUAWEI introduces P30 and P30 Pro smartphones

HUAWEI announces the launch of the P30 and P30 Pro photo flagships in Russia. New photo and video shooting capabilities are provided by the innovative HUAWEI spectral sensor, superzoom lens, new TOF-camera.

The 7nm Kirin 980 processor with a dual neuromodule is responsible for high performance and energy efficiency. Also, for the first time in Russia, the HiVision smart assistant for sightseeing recognition, text translation, and calorie counting is presented.

New word in mobile photography

The main camera of the P30 series has a 1/1.7-inch HUAWEI spectral sensor with an innovative RYYB color filter, where yellow pixels are used instead of green pixels – traditionally used in the RGGB filter. This expands the ISO range of the P30 and P30 Pro to 204,800 and 409,600, respectively. AI HDR+ also enhances the shooting quality of all cameras by combining several shots in a series into one final shot – with the correct exposure and reproduction of all tones, from darks to highlights.

The flagship HUAWEI P30 Pro camera phone features the new Leica system with four cameras, namely the main camera with a 40 MP HUAWEI spectral sensor and wide angle lens (aperture f/1.6), 20 MP camera with ultra-wide angle lens (aperture f/2.2), 8 MP camera with telephoto lens (aperture f/3.4) as well as a TOF camera. The latter accurately determines the distance to the subject, so that the dual neuromodule processor Kirin 980 can calculate the depth of field, divide the image into separate elements and in portrait mode simulate bokeh to highlight the main object in any background. The high level of equipment in the camera system in the model HUAWEI P30 Pro is confirmed by the maximum rating among smartphones DxOMark – 112 points.

The P30 uses a system of three cameras, which include: the main with a 40 MP spectral sensor HUAWEI and wide-angle lens (aperture f/1.8), 16 MP camera with ultra-wide angle lens (aperture f/2.2), 8 MP camera with zoom lens (aperture f/2.4, OIS).

The P30 Pro and P30 smartphone telephoto cameras feature a periscopic lens design. Its prismatic optical element deflects light by 90 degrees and provides a long focal length, which is unattainable with a conventional lens design in a slim smartphone body.

The new smartphones support three types of autofocus: laser, phase, contrast, as well as intelligent image stabilization technology AIS. Both models are equipped with a 32 MP front camera for selfies.

New video capabilities

In addition to taking photos, the P30 series offers a wide range of video features, including Dual-View technology. When shooting, it allows you to simultaneously use a camera with an ultra-wide angle and a telephoto lens to get two versions of video – with a close-up and a general view.

Thanks to the use of HUAWEI spectral sensor in the main camera smartphones P30 series are able to shoot video with high clarity in conditions with extremely low light levels. At the same time, the sharpness of close-up shooting with a telephoto lens is provided by the AIS and OIS stabilization technologies.

Progressive Design

On the Russian market, the smartphones are available in two unusual gradient colors: light blue (Breathing Crystal) and northern lights (Aurora). The P30 has a 6.1-inch screen and the P30 Pro has a 6.47-inch screen, both with FHD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels).

OLED screens have a symmetrical design with maximum coverage of the case area, its surface is monolithic except for a small drop-shaped cutout for the front camera. A fingerprint sensor and speaker are built under the glass.

Smart HiVision features

For the first time in Russia, HiVision’s smart features are available. The smart assistant allows you to recognize objects (sights or goods) and images (pictures) in order to report information about them using augmented reality. The capabilities of HiVision are complemented by food recognition with calorie calculation.

Using the Huawei AR Engine, which is capable of using several smartphone cameras, and visual image processing technologies, HiVision obtains multidimensional characteristics of different foods. By comparing the obtained data with the available food samples, information on the caloric value of the food sample under study can be obtained.

The new HiVision Assistant feature has the following advantages:

• It offers, for the first time, the ability to identify food using the smartphone itself. Thanks to the use of artificial intelligence of the dual neuromodule processor Kirin 980, food recognition is fast, and its accuracy is up to 90%.
• The combination of artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology allows food samples to be recognized based on their category, shape and distance, and combines this information with caloric information from the world’s leading nutrition institutes.
