Bastards is based on the famous film with the same name. The game is a continuation of the popular Medal of Valor series of games. In this game the action will take place in the fall of 1943. The main characters are a group of teenagers who were dropped off near the Caucasian coast, on the Black Sea, to the very front line. Their main goal is to destroy the secret German base, because it is with it that their advance in this direction is connected.
You will play as the bravest of the guys — the guy everyone calls the Cat. For him, the Soviet commanders prepared a special task, which, in their opinion, only he could cope with.

Not a year without special forces
Two years ago, Danger Close studio donated a second one
life of the Medal of Honor series, relaunching it in a modern setting, and
then this dish was to the taste only of those who were really tired of Call
of Duty. The second part, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, has started
further — it borrowed the Frostbite 2 graphics engine from Battlefield
3, left the cast of the characters from the year before last “Medal” and acquired a script
about the fight against Arab terrorism, which will be dragged through by a detachment of elite
special forces through Yemen, Dubai, Somalia, Pakistan and Sarajevo.
The connection with the previous Medal of Honor has not gone away:
our memorable Voodoo warriors, the Preacher and Mother never hung their rifles on the wall,
and the bearded operative Dusty, who lost his leg in the last part, became a military man
group consultant. However, towards the end this super soldier (the prototype for him
served as a famous bearded mercenary nicknamed Cowboy, he will still return to the battlefield and set the heat there.

► We remember the Voodoo operative for his familiar “bro” address. They say that before joining the special forces he was a Rastafarian. Judging by his unregulated appearance, it is difficult to say anything for sure.
The plot is inspired by real combat operations, but only one
the mission is based on actual events — the capture of the captain
ships by Somali pirates and the subsequent destruction of filibusters. In the rest
In some cases, the player will have to guess the nature of the source himself. So,
for example, clearing the headquarters of an arms baron and a mufti rolled into one is very
similar to a similar incident with Osama bin Laden, but the developers, of course,
they will never admit it.
Call of Duty took over not only the story of fighting
Muslim terrorism — the gameplay of Warfighter is like two peas in a pod
for the latest games in the series, only on the engine from Battlefield 3. Destructibility, however,
there is no trace of it, and externally the game is noticeably behind — Danger Close failed
wisely use the technology they inherited, and large-scale scenes are not
wondered. There are very few of them, and the production leaves much to be desired, so
the newfangled engine is, in fact, not used at all.

► The sentries in the Warfighter story campaign are not particularly sensitive. This one, for example, from the starting mission, guards an unnecessary area and will never turn around, even if you jump or do push-ups seventy times behind him!
Action films from Activision mixed pathos, absurdity and chases
almost in ideal proportions, and this forced the players not to look away
stare at the screen. But pathos is clearly in the magic formula of Medal of Honor: Warfighter
it was too much, the absurdity was not enough, and due to a glitch in the recipe, the production as a whole was not
wants to work correctly — local propaganda of almighty America
presented with a sour expression and without the slightest hint of imagination. Just sad
takes an advertisement for “Steel” cigarettes with the leader of nations on the cover; «cranberry» —
at least it’s fun.
Review of medal of honor: allied assault | forgotten by the publisher, but not by the players
and Call of Duty
, to the greatness of which the same people had a hand, but perhaps about that another time.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
was released in January 2002 and had the effect of a “bomb exploding”, given the events of the game this may sound blasphemous, but the expression perfectly describes what happened after. Shooters about the Second World War poured into a huge stream of gamers’ consoles and computers, but specifically Allied Assault
became the first step that helped others break into the world.

Not like the others
In 1999, under the direction of Steven Spielberg, the first Medal of Honor was released
, for Ps1, which tried to show the war as it really is, of course, taking into account the technology of the time. This game laid the foundation that Allied Assault embodied
already on PC, in a more technologically advanced version.
The game was positioned not as a standard, meaty shooter, but as a work of fiction disguised as a war chronicle. Before each major mission, we are briefed and introduced to the events that unfolded during the war in a particular territory or told about the features of historical operations in which we will take part, such as “Torch” and “Overlord”.
In the game itself, as a rule, we participate in fictional events, or artistically embellished ones, but they are accompanied by historical facts. Thanks to this approach, where fiction is correctly mixed for the sake of gameplay and historical facts, the player does not experience dissonance, and in principle, he can imagine that such events could actually happen.
In the role of US Army Lieutenant Mike Powelli, we had to take part in a variety of operations, during which the player faced various micro-tasks. The developers required the player not only to get from point “A” to point “B”, simultaneously exterminating the Nazis, but to rescue hostages, mine equipment, carry out sabotage, hold positions or, conversely, carry out a fierce assault, and sometimes participate in secret operations.

At one time, the landing in Normandy was not inferior in intensity to a similar scene in the film “Saving Private Ryan”
With such simple actions, they managed to immerse the player in what was happening on the screen, making him believe that he was a real soldier on the battlefield.
Despite the fact that you go through most of the missions in the game alone, you don’t get the feeling that you are a super soldier who is able to deal with Hitler’s entire army. You feel like just a cog who manages to contribute a little more to the victory than the rest.
How does one fight?
In a war, you can’t go without weapons. Medal of Honor
does not contain the entire list of iconic trunks of that time, but those that are present are recreated exactly as you imagine them in reality.
I should note that I am not an expert and have no idea how accurately the weapons in the game were recreated, but throughout the entire playthrough, I had the feeling that this is exactly what a Thompson assault rifle or Mp-40 should sound like. In no other game that featured similar guns did such a feeling arise.
In the first Call of Duty
, which was created by almost the same people, the weapon sounds completely different. It gives off a loud, booming, metallic sound, while in Medal of Honor
a dull, deep, almost velvety shot sounds.

We will have to steal StG 44 directly from the factory for its development, along with the drawings
I think it’s not necessary to mention that each weapon is individual in its own way, some have greater accuracy, some have greater range, and in some places the shotgun will be king. What needs to be mentioned is the enemies.
Medal of Honor is very closely related to cinema. This is not even due to the fact that Spielberg had a hand in creating the first game, but rather to the production moments that the game generates.
Now, by cinematic, many people understand that the game is replete with cutscenes that are shot “like in a movie,” with beautiful angles, techniques and transitions. It doesn’t matter that there is almost no “game” left in the game.
Medal of Honor has a slightly different cinematic feel. In shootouts with enemies, you can pay attention to their behavior and notice that they have unique animations and “Live” reactions. They try to peek out from behind cover, throw grenades, react to the way you throw grenades, bend to the ground, roll when you fire at them. But what is most interesting is their reaction to hits.
Depending on your shot and where it hits, enemies will begin to react accordingly. For example, pressing a wounded arm or leg.

Looks in surprise as he was wounded in the arm
When it comes to death, he then turns on a real acting performance. Enemies often begin to writhe, depicting a real theatrical death. Now this may not sound very impressive, but at that time for me, and I think for many, it was something like Ragdoll, which captivated many with the release of GTA 4
.
In Medal of Honor, the developers were able to very well mix standard Shooter mechanics with arcade elements and even stealth. In addition to the standard destruction of fascists, the player is offered to ride in a jeep, destroying an enemy airfield, or climb into a tank and try to escape from the occupied territory.
If such things have become the gold standard, which is found in every popular shooter, then only Call of Duty WW2 tried to implement stealth in enemy territory with changing clothes and showing documents.
, where the stealth turned out to be too scripted and limited. This is actually unfortunate, because it was the stealth missions that many people remembered in Medal of Honor. They stood out against the background of everything that was happening, creating those wow moments that pop up in your memory 10 years after the game’s release.

One of the most memorable missions in the game involves dressing up and infiltrating an enemy submarine
Well, since we touched on the topic that they used to play games, but now they watch them, then an opportunity came up to give a funny example. The game does not have self-healing health, therefore, first aid kits serve as a saving element. They can be found at the level or taken from those rare partners with whom you are fighting.
During the passage, there will often be cases when you have a minimum of lives left, not a single first aid kit around, and you are surrounded by enemies. A separate stage of the level turns into a real puzzle for you, during which you need to memorize the location of enemies, the order of their appearance and enter the desired pace in order to skip this moment without loading a very distant save. To do this, you sometimes have to die more than once.
I didn’t feel any anger or irritation at these moments; I really wanted to be able to overcome the obstacle that, one might say, I had created for myself. Compared to a similar situation from the 2002 game, it’s funny to see how far modern games have come and how much the way players experience things has changed.
Spearhead and Breakthrough, are they DLC?
Two add-ons were released for the game, which absorbed all the gameplay of the original game, tried to show new places of conflict, but most importantly, they made a huge step forward in terms of staging.

After completing Allied Assault, the opening scenes in the expansions can be very surprising in terms of staging
First expansion Spearhead
tells us the story of Jack Barnes, played by Gary Oldman. We have to take part in Operation Overlord, but not in the role of a brave soldier taking part in a landing on the shore, but in the role of a sergeant who penetrates enemy territory by making a parachute jump.
The game itself is very short, but this makes it much more eventful. This includes infiltration by boat to eliminate the enemy general and then blow up the bridge. There will be room for a more beautiful chase, compared to the original, where there will be many more small events, as a result of which we will have to take part in the Battle of the Bulge. Well, the game ends with the help of the Red Army in the capture of Berlin.
The main feature is that between missions the main character shares his personal experiences about the events taking place, and not as in the original game, such information was presented to us in the form of a briefing. Thanks to this approach, you could to some extent empathize with the character, because for you he became more than just a nameless soldier.
Second expansion called Breakthrough
, also offered us new locales. The production again becomes much better and more detailed. This is clearly seen in the opening scene of a jeep ride in the African desert.

It’s hard to see due to the sandstorm, but throughout the opening scene, there are a lot of mini scenes related to the military life of the camp
In this add-on, they decided to pay a lot of attention to stealth missions. There are also secret dashes between Tunisian streets, followed by dressing up as a German officer and infiltrating with the aim of destroying an enemy ship. There is also penetration into a German airfield, where you can commit sabotage and neutralize enemy aircraft.
It’s not really possible to count these two expansions as DLC. These are more like adonnas, which are a great addition to the original game.
***
Medal of Honor is a series of fundamental games. She invented and popularized military shooters about World War II. It told interesting stories and offered addictive gameplay. She, over time, lost her face and was forgotten.
Sometimes it’s hard for me to realize that an entire console generation has passed (7 years) and we still haven’t seen a continuation or reimagining of the series.
Medal of Honor is not just a “shooter” about World War II, it is a game that personifies an entire generation, which many have missed. So isn’t it time for her to return?
Online
Warfighter’s multiplayer mode is doing well
better. In fact, this is a separate story, a kind of game within a game. Alexey Makarenkov
once aptly dubbed Medal of Honor multiplayer “re-Contra with elements
sub-Battlefield.» The sequel, released two years later, is basically not much
changed.

► The Preacher is one of the saddest and most pensive protagonists in the history of war shooters. Anticipating the future of the game?
There are six different classes to choose from: sniper,
attack aircraft, demolition man, machine gunner, special forces and gunner. Everyone has their own chip:
for example, a heat sensor that highlights enemies behind obstacles. Each class
is useful in some way and uses his characteristic weapons and grenades. As you dial
experience gives you access to bonus class options — of course, with
better quality weapons.
Network modes are not original (which is not
them bad). Let us only mention the “Combat Mission”, which develops the idea
the popular Rush mode from Battlefield. One of the teams needs to blow up
bomb three objects, interfere with the second. Any of the three objects can be attacked
or defend at any time. But. this was already in the past Medal of Honor, but
is there anything new?
The only multiplayer debutant is “Hot Spot”.
A mining location is randomly determined on the map, and one team
must defend this area for a certain time, and the other —
destroy the defenders and mine the facility. The winner is determined by the results
five rounds.

| ► The game changes its appearance like a chameleon. In the first frame there is a settlement in the tropics, as if taken from Far Cry 3, in the second — a typical Mogadishu from some Modern Warfare. | |
The authors were in such a hurry to deliver the project on time and overtake the main one

- stealth mission while driving a car;
- the presence of Russia in the list of countries participating in the multiplayer;
- shootouts with Wahhabis in pitch darkness.

- a banal story about evil Arabs;
- a lot of bugs;
- propaganda nature of the game.

Don’t jump without a leg
Rescue a one-legged paratrooper whose parachute did not open.
The game Medal of Honor: Warfighter is not just a shooting gallery, but a whole guide to the sights and beauties of the unknown Middle East and third world countries. Mountains in Karachi? Easily. Pakistani forest near Chitral? Walk, breathe the air, kill unpleasant people. Soviet ice skating rink in Sarajevo? Here are the tickets for the visit, and don’t worry about the blood on the walls, we’ll clean everything up ourselves later! And Isabella in the Philippines, going under the water before our eyes, sometimes reminds us of past exploits in the sinking city of BioShock.
From the very first frames it is clear where the script is leading and to whom it prophesies what. Which of the heroes will be sacrificed, who will return from retirement, who will accomplish an exemplary feat. The conflict between the Preacher and his own wife Lena is of some interest, but this storyline will soon be strangled with cold hands, letting the audience understand that “be patient, wife, to fight or help a soldier is the duty of every American!” We don’t believe in drama!

Despite the rush (or maybe because of it), Warfighter came out at the wrong time and found itself between a rock and a hard place — the role of the first is played by the upcoming Black Ops 2, and the second serves as a reinforced concrete springboard in the form of Battlefield 3. The project with There is simply nowhere to go with the trivial single player mode and typical multiplayer.
