Turkey’s leading information and communications company, Türk Telekom, has tested 5G access to educational materials based on augmented and virtual reality technologies in partnership with Huawei, one of the world’s leading ICT solution providers. This is the first project in Turkey where 5G was used to access the cloud platform. During MWC — 2019, it was recognized as one of the best cases for using 5G for cloud applications for vertical industries in Huawei’s countries of presence.
As part of this project, Türk Telekom provided high-quality, low-latency image transmission over the 5G network. Considering that this tool is focused on the field of education, materials on subjects such as biology, chemistry and electronics, where high-quality visualization is particularly important, were broadcast. AR/VR content for the project was provided by Nara EdTech.
Türk Telekom Technical Director Yusuf Kıraç noted that the company plays a key role in the development of 5G technology in Turkey, constantly implementing projects in this field and investing heavily in it.
«We are doubly proud that our project was recognized as one of the best cases of using 5G technology for cloud applications for vertical industries by Huawei. I believe that next-generation fixed and mobile technologies will make a great contribution to the development of the education sector, including in our country. The recognition and attention that our work on 5G technology has received in our 5G network-based educational demonstration encourages us to continue our work in the context of different scenarios of 5G use in the future, taking it to the next level,» says Yusuf Kirac.
Türk Telekom, which aims to provide Turkey and its subscribers with the most advanced technology in fixed and mobile communications, is working with leading local and international companies to achieve this goal. At MWC-2019, Türk Telekom signed a letter of intent with Huawei, and now this partnership will create products and solutions based on 5G technology. This will accelerate Turkey’s digital transformation and provide the country with the most advanced technology.
«In order for us to increase our contribution to Turkey, we need new technologies like 5G. They are in demand in a wide variety of areas and sectors — urban planning, agriculture, transportation, healthcare, education, energy, entertainment, and more. That is why Türk Telekom is committed to developing, testing and implementing 5G technology in partnership with Huawei,» says Türk Telekom CEO Paul Doany.
«Huawei products and services can be used by three-quarters of the world’s population. Education is one of the most important areas for us. In all the countries where we operate, we work with various programs, technologies and educational projects to create maximum benefits for young people.
Our technology laboratories at leading universities, including Turkish universities, help train qualified young specialists. The cooperation with Turk Telekom is very important to us, as it helps to improve the field of education, especially since this is one of the first projects in the 5G sector implemented in Turkey. We are proud to present this project, which combines AR/VR technology and the power of 5G, together with the largest mobile operator in Turkey. I would like to thank all the teams involved in its implementation,» said Tang Qibing, Global Head of Technical Services at Huawei.
Augmented and Virtual Reality
Augmented and virtual reality lead the list of cutting-edge technologies that will revolutionize the consumption of content and communication services. Service and content providers will soon begin to provide new services that capitalize on current business models and take the potential of AR, VR, and related technologies to the highest level.
5G and cloud technologies will provide operators with ease of use in applications requiring AR/VR, high speed, low latency, high quality and high storage capacity.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019) is taking place in Barcelona, Spain, from February 25 to 28. Huawei is showing its solutions at booth 1H50 in Fira Gran Via Hall 1, booth 3I30 in Hall 3, in the City of Innovation zone in Hall 4, and booths 7C21 and 7C31 in Hall 7.
