At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, HUAWEI unveiled its first 5G smartphone, the HUAWEI Mate X, with a foldable form factor.
The Mechanism
The HUAWEI Mate X smartphone is equipped with a mechanical Falcon Wing (Falcon Wing), multi-mode modem chipset Balong 5000, made by 7-nm process and high-capacity battery (4500 mA*h) with fast charging function HUAWEI SuperCharge 55W.
When folded, the device is a smartphone with a large frameless screen with a diagonal of 6.6 inches. When unfolded, the device becomes a thin tablet with a diagonal of 8 inches. The new multi-format design of the smartphone allows you to significantly increase the productivity of its use and expand the possibilities for entertainment.

Falcon Wing mechanical hinge — the balance between technology and aesthetics HUAWEI Mate X was the result of intensive work to find a new form factor for mobile devices. In the design of this smartphone and 2-in-1 tablet, engineers combined a mechanical hinge in the shape of a falcon wing and a wearable flexible OLED screen.
Screen
When folded, the device is a smartphone with two frameless FullView screens measuring 6.6 inches on the front side and 6.38 inches on the back, and when unfolded, it transforms into an 8-inch tablet that is only 5.4 mm thick. The screen is crisp and detailed, and the OLED panel offers high security, mechanical endurance and cooling rates.
The Falcon Wing mechanical hinge struck a balance between technology and aesthetics. When unfolded, the screen is a smooth, seamless surface. When folded, its halves precisely meet at the edge of the frame. As a result, the transformation of a smartphone into a tablet and back is as smooth as possible.

The multi-format nature of the HUAWEI Mate X has given us a new perspective on what work and entertainment will be like in the era of 5G connectivity.
