At MWC 2019, Huawei unveiled FusionStorage 8.0, a next-generation converged distributed storage solution for data centers. The new solution is based on the «One Data Center, One Storage» principle and will help customers from various industries, including telecommunications and finance, easily move to the cloud.
Need
The Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and many other cutting-edge technologies pose demands that conventional centralized storage cannot meet. What is needed is a new type of storage that bridges the many gaps between different models, centralizes storage and control over different applications, reduces total cost of ownership, and improves service efficiency of digital platforms.
Huawei FusionStorage 8.0 enables a single storage system to support block, file, object and HDFS protocols as well as database protocols. FusionStorage 8.0 manages mixed applications in all scenarios and throughout the full data lifecycle, from formation and crash investigation to analytics and archiving, which ensures the free movement of data and guarantees a consistently high quality of service.
Convergence in five dimensions
Huawei is the only vendor that offers public cloud services and processors/chips alongside traditional storage. Huawei integrates a distributed storage platform with flexible scalability, advanced enterprise functionality and processor optimization capabilities to enable data center-level convergence across industries.
The Huawei FusionStorage 8.0 solution involves a single deployment through converged protocols instead of traditional disparate deployments based on different protocols. It reduces total cost of ownership by 30% and improves resource efficiency. With mission-critical converged applications, FusionStorage 8.0 enables a single storage system to support basic and specialized enterprise applications, while converged clouds enable the integration of edge, private and public clouds within a single platform.
With five converged features, FusionStorage 8.0 achieves the goal of «one data center, one storage», simplifies storage device models, eliminates management complexity, reduces data usage costs and enables mobility and open data exchange on and off site. In addition, the service updates new services, eliminating the risks of outages and the need to migrate data.
First distributed storage for mission-critical applications
Huawei FusionStorage 8.0 is the first distributed storage system on the market to support mission-critical enterprise applications. It provides horizontal scalability of a single cluster of up to 4096 nodes and tens of millions of input/output operations per second (IOPS). With industry-leading memory chips and FlashLink® acceleration technology, FusionStorage 8.0 enables nodes to work more efficiently with SSDs, resulting in latency as low as 0.5 milliseconds and superior performance. Revolutionary technologies that are ideal for key carrier databases and online financial applications that require fast I/O response, delivering high-speed, stable performance for mission-critical enterprise applications.
FusionStorage 8.0, which includes the Huawei HyperMetro (active-active) enterprise storage solution, provides nearly 100 percent (99.99999%) solution-level reliability for uninterrupted operation in virtualization and database scenarios. In addition, FusionStorage 8.0 uses the industry’s only asynchronous replication technology that supports Level 2 Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) for data center process continuity.
Huawei’s patented, self-adapting deduplication and compression functionality allows FusionStorage 8.0 to provide a 5-to-1 data compression ratio even when using a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), which reduces storage requirements.
With Huawei FusionStorage, China Mobile (Liaoning) has launched a total of 10 petabytes, which has operated for more than four years without failure, improving database performance and reducing the processing time of 100 terabytes of transaction analysis data by about five — from ten hours to two — which guaranteed continuous service.
«Data centers are switching from traditional siloed architecture to cloud-ready architecture,» said Meng Guangbin, president of Huawei’s Intelligent Storage and Data Management Sectors. — The next-generation FusionStorage 8.0 solution leverages five-dimensional convergence to break down the barriers between enterprise data. It is the first distributed storage that supports mission-critical applications and implements the «One Data Center, One Storage» concept, which greatly simplifies digitalization. FusionStorage provides storage services to thousands of enterprise users worldwide.»
The Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019) is taking place in Barcelona, Spain, from February 25 to 28. Huawei is demonstrating its solutions at booth 1H50 in Fira Gran Via Hall 1, booth 3I30 in Hall 3, in the City of Innovation zone in Hall 4, and booths 7C21 and 7C31 in Hall 7.
