Huawei am116. headset review.

Tenhz P4 Pro | Four Mysterious Armatures

Review of CoGoo headphones!! T65
Publication date: before the first sound revolution

The previous headset from Huawei AM12, which is reviewed on this site, turned out to be a rather controversial product. Someone talked about the insufficient sound quality of the product, but personally I found that headset to be quite good. Therefore, when I saw the new Huawei AM116
, I immediately bought it, fortunately it costs $12. I consider this not a high price to pay for satisfying curiosity, especially since this headset is not in-ear, but is made in an “in-ear” form factor that is rare today.

Technical characteristics of the Huawei AM116 headset →
Huawei is a venerable manufacturer. This is one of the founders of the large technology business of new China, a huge company with a worldwide reputation. The brand’s products are in no way inferior to those of famous Japanese, American and European manufacturers. And Huawei has always been in perfect order with product packaging.

This time it’s multi-layered. The outer layer is a box made of flexible transparent plastic, followed by a cardboard backing with printing, and then a solid detachable plastic box with a headset wound around its lower opaque part.
Everything looks great and is perfect for a gift.
The packaging was not only made, but was endowed with a number of useful and rarely seen features. For example, the sticker seals, which must be cut or removed to open each box, reveal the repeated word “Void” when peeled off. In my opinion, this is excellent protection for the buyer from purchasing a product that is not new.
The kit contains nothing except the Huawei AM116 headset itself and a plastic box. No instructions, no warranty.
The plastic box is not bad, and is conditionally similar to that from Xiaomi Piston, but the winding in it is not a soft elastic band inserted into the box, as was the case with the Pistons, but the lower part of the box itself, made of hard plastic. This winding was made with absolutely no reserve for the wire, and it is impossible to re-wind a previously removed headset onto it without special preparation — the wire sticks out and the lid does not close.
Design, materials and workmanship
From a design point of view, the headset is clearly made with an eye on Apple’s Earpods, however, Huawei designers have made a number of changes and, as I see it, improvements in the visual and operational components.

The headphone housings are made of high-quality plastic, some of which are stylized as metal. There are two sound guides covered with metal mesh, and two compensation holes on each earphone. One of these compensation holes is made in the long stem of each earphone. Despite the fact that it is almost impossible to put the headphones on incorrectly, due to their shape, they have “L” and “R” marks on them.

The wire divider is made of rubber, and the body of the headset control unit and the straight plug without gold plating are made of plastic.

The wire is simple, thin compared to the AM12 model, does not get tangled and slightly remembers its shape.
Overall the headset looks great. All its elements are also perfectly made, and it is assembled absolutely flawlessly. The highest level of the manufacturer is immediately visible.
The Huawei AM116 headphones fit perfectly. They don’t fall out or put pressure – the balance is maintained.
In this model, the control unit is no longer as huge as in the AM12, which was my main complaint about it. The size is also not minuscule, but quite reasonable considering that it is a three-button device. It is located on the wire of the right earphone and when worn it ends up near the mouth. The buttons respond to all presses confidently and are very reminiscent of the same element from Earpods.

The microphone installed is very good, with high-quality transmission of frequencies and bases of excessive sensitivity.
Again, a lot depends on the form factor. Soft and deep bass without turbidity. Energetic and detailed mids, slightly muted highs. Wide and deep stage, coupled with sufficient sound clarity. The Huawei AM116 headset is a little lacking in transparency, but this is only because the form factor does not provide sound insulation.
I find myself thinking that there is nothing special to write about good sound; it is easy to select epithets only when it is necessary to describe shortcomings. In this case, everything is exactly like that — the headphones have a very pleasant, strong, dense and “vintage” sound, which made me extremely happy. It may not bring the expected satisfaction to fans of in-ear models, but this is just a matter of preference.
The headphones are moderately dark. No audible dips in the frequency range were noticed. There was also no dependence on heating, music styles or sound sources. Although this headset played best with the Ruizu X05, there is such a thing.
I consider the transmission of bass and voice to be the strongest points of the Huawei AM116 — they sound very soulful, and the detail of the lower mids. Weak – transmission of the highest frequencies, there is no pleasant sand, but it is not needed here so as not to spoil the “vintage” sound.
Attention! Not everyone will understand this headset. After all, not everyone understood the previous model from Huawei, but I personally liked the AM116. I guess I have a soft spot for earbuds, but I sincerely think that $12 for it is not expensive at all. The headphones are well packaged, look expensive, and the sound is very good, so I recommend them as a gift for friends and for personal use. I added this model to the box with my favorites and periodically used ones.
