Batteries
These smartphones use the same 3020 mAh batteries. Theoretically, it can be assumed that Honor 8S should work longer, because the processor is simpler and the screen diagonal is smaller. However, to my surprise, the operating time coincides almost to the minute.
Video playback at maximum brightness: 7 hours 30 minutes
Gaming at maximum brightness: 5 hours 15 minutes for 8A Pro and 4 hours 50 minutes for 8S.
The average screen glow at automatic brightness for the Honor 8A Pro is 4 hours 30 minutes, for the Honor 8S it is approximately 4 hours. Also at the level of error.
8A Pro
The 8A Pro smartphone charges faster (2 hours) due to the presence of a 2A network adapter. It takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to fill the Honor 8S with energy.
Appearance
In 2020, the Honor brand decided to release its smartphones in a new recognizable design: the back panel is conventionally divided into two parts, one of which is either matte or glossy. The younger version 8S is made entirely of plastic. The reverse side is embossed and semi-matte. The older version has glossy and matte. This solution looks quite good.

The Honor 8S is available in black, blue and gold, while the 8A Pro is only available in black and blue. I had devices in my hands in blue — the most attractive and youthful. The front panels of the phones are black and do not differ in anything special. Except that the HONOR inscriptions are made in a different type of font.

If we are talking about the practicality of materials, then Honor 8S is better in this regard, since the body is mostly matte, fingerprints are invisible. The 8A Pro collects all possible traces on the back cover, but they are easily erased.
| Honor 8S | Honor 8A Pro | |
| Dimensions and weight | 147 x 70 x 8.45 mm, weight 146 grams | 156 x 73 x 8.0 mm, weight 150 grams |
From the table it becomes clear that the 8S is a more compact phone, therefore it fits better in the hand and does not slip out due to the corrugated surface.
The oleophobic coating is average in both cases: the finger glides uncertainly, fingerprints are difficult to wipe off. A clear flaw.
On the top of the front panel there are message indicators, selfie cameras, an earpiece, a missed events indicator, proximity and light sensors. The volume of the speakers is about the same average, but the sound in terms of timbre transmission is a little more pleasant on the Honor 8S.

At the bottom end you can see a microUSB, microphone, and speakerphone. By the way, both phones are equipped with additional microphones for noise reduction during calls. The microphone on the 8A Pro worked more actively.
On the right is the power button and volume control. On the left is a slide that holds two SIM cards and a separate microSD memory card. That’s a plus!

On the back side, at the top left are the main cameras and flashes. Honor 8A Pro has a fingerprint scanner. But the younger version does not have such a thing.
Overall: nice phones from a design point of view, subjectively I liked the Honor 8S more.
Appearance and ergonomics
The Huawei Honor 8 Pro smartphone has a fashionable, streamlined design. The high-quality all-metal body has rounded edges, as well as glossy 2.5-glass glass covering the display. There are no buttons on the front, and on the back there is a fingerprint scanner, dual camera, flash and logo.
The device is comfortable to use with one hand thanks to its excellent ergonomics. The camera lens does not protrude forward, and the build quality is at the highest level. Dimensions of Honor 8 Pro: height — 157 mm, width — 77.50 mm, thickness — 6.97 mm, weight — 184 g. Colors: gold, black and blue.
Impressions
In each section I wrote the final result. Therefore, the reader can easily evaluate the item he needs. I wouldn’t overpay for the Honor 8A Pro, since 14,000 rubles is extremely expensive for it.

But Honor 8S, for its 8,000 rubles, is one of the best solutions on our market: compact body, bright and contrasting screen, up to 4 hours of screen light, fast lens for the main camera, Bluetooth version 5.

In Russia, Redmi 7A 2/32 GB is sold for 8,500 rubles. The battery here is 4000 mAh, after all, it has a Qualcomm processor.
For 9,000 rubles you can get Redmi 6 3/32 GB: 3000 mAh, two cameras, but the processor is again MediaTek, albeit with 8 cores.
As an option – BQ Strike Forward 2/16 for 7,000 rubles. Pros: lower price, VoLTE and 8 cores.

Or consider a more interesting option — BQ Magic with NFC, 2/32 GB for 8,000 rubles.

Displays
Below is a table with the main screen parameters:
| Honor 8S | Honor 8A Pro | |
| Display | 5.7 inches, 1520 x 720 pixels, IPS, PPI 294 | 6.09 inches, 1520 x 720 pixels, IPS, PPI 283 |
Judging only by the numbers, the displays are almost the same, 0.39 inches does not count. The brightness of the Honor 8S matrix is approximately 300 cd/m2, the brightness of the 8A Pro matrix is about 280 cd/m2, but the contrast of the 8S is much higher — 550:1, since the 8A Pro has only 400:1.
(Right – 8A Pro)

Both colors lie: the younger version goes into cool shades, the older version goes into warm shades. The 8A Pro matrix fades more in the light, although the 8A behaves so-so. On both, the cutout can be hidden.

Overall: rather weak screens with simple brightness and contrast settings, but I would give preference to the Honor 8S display.
Display
Honor 8 Pro has a large 5.7-inch screen with an ultra-clear resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels (2K). This allows you not only to view the image in the smallest detail, but also virtual reality using the glasses that come with the kit. It uses an advanced LTPS matrix with rich color reproduction and a significant brightness reserve.
Hardware and performance
Thanks to the top-end Kirin 960 processor with eight cores (four Cortex-A53, four Cortex-A73) and the Mali-G71 MP8 graphics accelerator, the new Huawei Honor 8 Pro stands out for its excellent performance. The video chip supports Vulkan API technology, which means it handles 3D graphics most confidently and efficiently.
The amount of internal memory reaches 64 GB, and RAM — 6 GB. You can insert a memory card at any time, the capacity of which does not exceed 128 GB. The most popular AnTuTu test gives about 150,000 points. It uses the Android 7.0 operating system with a unique EMUI 5.1 shell.
Camera
The smartphone uses a 12 MP dual camera with a combination of color and monochrome modules. In practice, this significantly improves the quality of images due to the large amount of incoming light. And thanks to a special wide aperture mode, you can take artistic photos with background blur.
Cameras
You may have already noticed that none of the devices have an additional camera. Although, of course, marketers could squeeze a fake module in there in order to “wind up” customers for themselves. In general, Huawei acted honestly.

13 MP main cameras, autofocus, decent aperture for its price — f/1.8! Front cameras – 5 MP (f/2.2) for the younger version of the phone, 8 MP (f/2.0) for the older one.
Photos during the day turn out very good: correct white balance, high sharpness throughout the frame, fast focusing. The quality is absolutely the same.

The Honor 8A Pro is already starting to come out ahead a little indoors: less noise, a higher percentage of clear photos, a little more accurate white balance.

In low lighting conditions, the older version definitely performs better. However, Honor 8S is great for its 8,000 rubles!

The front cameras are approximately the same, only the white balance of the 8A Pro varies: from warm to cool shades.

Both phones shoot video in FullHD resolution. The quality is slightly better on the 8A Pro.
The interface is familiar to all Huawei devices of the Honor brand.

Total: very good photo quality, with an advantage over the older model.

Communication capabilities
I will again provide a table in which you can see that the parameters of these two models are almost the same.
| Honor 8S | Honor 8A Pro | |
| Network | 2G: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz 3G: 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz 4G: Bands 1/3/5/7/8/20 Dual SIM cards | 2G: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz 3G: 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz 4G: Bands 1/3/5/7/8/20 Dual SIM cards |
| Wireless interfaces | Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 5 BLE, FM radio | Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, FM radio |
| Navigation | GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou | GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS |
Honor 8S turned out to be a little more advanced with Bluetooth version 5.0, and the presence of BeiDou is also a plus. Another strange point: the Honor 8S works a little better with the network, connects to 4G faster, and is less likely to drop out of data transmission. But the 8A Pro finds satellites faster and determines positioning a little more accurately.

Total: I would again give preference to the Honor 8S device — small but smart!

Cons:
- No protection against water.
- Slips a little in the hand.
Multimedia
The phones have one speaker installed to output music. The volume is slightly higher on the Honor 8A Pro, the quality is equally good, plus or minus, without wheezing, without overload.
I checked the sound on several devices: Meizu Flow, Meizu POP, Bose QC35, Huawei FreeBuds lite and JBL Armour. The best, oddly enough, is JBL. Next – Bose, Huawei, Meizu Flow and POP. The sound quality of smartphones is about the same average, but not bad. The volume is 10-15 percent higher in the older model. But this is purely subjective.
FM Radio app is present in both Honor 8S and 8A Pro.
Total: Honor 8A Pro is a little more musical than Honor 8S.
Huawei honor 8 pro review
Huawei Honor 8 Pro is the flagship smartphone of this line. The device was first presented at the end of February 2020 in China, and in Russia the official announcement took place in April. This is a full-fledged phablet with a massive screen, powerful hardware and a dual camera.

Honor 8S RAM speed is extremely budget-friendly.
Honor 8A Pro RAM speed – 4200 MB/s, budget-friendly, for 14,000 rubles you could get memory in the region of 7000 MB/s.
The speed of the built-in memory of Honor 8S is 250/130 MB/s, not bad!

The speed of the built-in memory of Honor 8A Pro is 196/100 MB/s, normal.

Surprisingly, the budget smartphone outperformed the more expensive one, and by a decent amount.
The MediaTek Helio A22 MT6761 processor was introduced last year. Quite an interesting chipset, considering the 12 nm process technology – low heating, high energy efficiency. There are 4 cores working inside with a clock frequency of up to 2000 MHz.
Towards the end of 2020, MediaTek Helio P35, aka MTK6765, was shown. Again 12 nm, but already 8 cores with a clock frequency of up to 2300 MHz.
In real life, Honor 8A Pro behaves better: less lags and slowdowns, more stable operation of all services and predictable behavior of the phone as a whole.

The Antutu test on Honor 8S failed and showed no results. The Honor 8A Pro ran the benchmark for about 15 minutes and produced 77,000 points — this is very low for an 8-core phone. Everything is fine with games on the first device, but PUBG will slow down even at the minimum settings. It is quite possible to play on a second smartphone even at medium settings of the PUBG game.

Total: Honor 8S is slow and clearly not for games, Honor 8A Pro is faster, but games are not very good either. One way or another, the older model comes out ahead in terms of overall performance.
Both smartphones operate on the Google Android operating system version 9. We did a similar review:

Pros:
- Very powerful iron.
- Large, ultra-clear display.
- Advanced dual camera.
- Modern software.
- Beautiful design.
Positioning
Smartphones Honor 8S and Honor 8A Pro appeared in Russia at the beginning of summer. They are devices in the budget price segment. The 8S is Honor’s most affordable phone, while the 8A Pro is a slightly more advanced version.
Since the smartphones have no fundamental differences, I decided to combine them into one review. In addition, this format for presenting material is better perceived by the reader: there is a comparison table, and all the necessary parameters of the two devices are visible.
The Honor 8S device is easy to find in Russian retail at a price of about 8,000 rubles, the Honor 8A Pro device costs 14,000 rubles and is sold only on Tmall.
Communications and sound
Huawei Honor 8 Pro has two SIM card slots and an NFC module. There is also support for high-speed LTE-Advanced networks (LTE Cat.6). The interlocutor can always be heard without problems. The speaker is moderately loud and very clear.

In terms of price and quality, Honor 8 Pro has few equals. The device has all the characteristics and capabilities typical of flagships, but with a low price of 30-35 thousand rubles. Moreover, the package includes not only a charger, a paper clip and a USB cable, but also a box that can turn into VR glasses.
Huawei honor 8 pro: characteristics, price, photos and reviews about honor 8 pro
Can the second SIM card in Honor 8 Pro work on 4G networks?
— No, only the first SIM card can work in fourth generation networks. The second one only works with 2G and 3G.
Is the sound from the headphones good?
— Not bad, but lacks volume. Using the same headphones, other smartphones play almost 2 times louder.
Does the glass panel on the back get dirty?
— Yes, but no more than on other devices with this design. Moreover, the glass panel on the Honor 8 Pro is quite slippery.
Is it possible to disable call reset using the power button?
— Of course, this feature can be disabled in the settings.
How well does glass resist impact when dropped?
— Honor 8 Pro owners complain that the glass on the back cracks even with minor falls.
