Alternative sources for installing applications
We sorted out the AppGallery, apparently, there are not very many programs in the Huawei store and if I only used it, then I, for example, would have to greatly change my habits. It’s understandable that no one wants to do this, and fortunately, it’s mostly avoidable.
For example, in the AppGallery itself, an application recently appeared with the simple name MoreApps, which is essentially a catalog of popular programs in each region, and shows the sources of their installation, including third-party stores. Moreover, if the application does not launch without GMS, then MoreApps shows its alternative.
Another way is to install an alternative application store, for example, Amazon Appstore or APKPure. Thanks to them, the smartphone can install most of the usual programs, except for most from Google. Therefore, potential users of Huawei devices should only rely on alternatives.
Although I note that not all Google programs do not work without GMS. For example, from APKPure you can install the Google Chrome browser, Google Translate, and the Files file manager. They are fully functional, the only thing is that you won’t be able to log into your Google account. But there are at least two programs that don’t need it: the Gboard keyboard and the Snapseed image editor.
In addition, the Waze car navigation application also uses its own maps and authorization system, so it does not depend on Google and works perfectly without GMS.
For me, the closest alternative to the Google cloud and some applications are Microsoft programs. Not all of them are available in the AppGallery yet, so from APKPure I installed the Edge browser, an email client with an Outlook calendar, OneDrive for synchronizing files and photos, and OneNote for notes.
In general, most popular applications that do not need Google services can be installed from APKPure and Amazon Appstore. You have to do this at your own peril and risk, but at least the built-in antivirus doesn’t complain about such installations. In addition, compared to downloading APK files from third-party sites, the advantage of alternative stores is that they also allow you to automatically update programs.
The main question with all these alternative sources is, perhaps, will users bother installing and configuring them? I think that not everyone even knows about this possibility. In this case, Huawei has provided a free service in stores and service centers, which includes assistance in registering a HUAWIE ID, transferring data and advice on how to install applications. But it’s difficult to say how well it will work for the user.
Display
All smartphones use matrices with good viewing angles, allowing you to see information on the screen at any angle of view. The only thing is that the brightness will noticeably drop at angles, but this is normal, because there is no Amoled display devoid of this drawback in any smartphone, which is explained by the low cost of the devices.

The maximum brightness value is higher for Redmi 8, but you need to take into account that only this smartphone has a non-disabled function that adjusts the screen brightness depending on the external light, so in some cases it will seem that Redmi 8 has the dimmest screen .
The honor 10 lite had the most uniform illumination, and due to the high FullHD resolution, the picture quality will be the best on this device. At the same time, the contrast of the screen is relatively low due to the overestimated value of the maximum black brightness, but this feature is often found even in expensive Honor smartphones. The color gamut of all smartphones has slight deviations from the sRGB space — we can assume that in almost all devices the colors will be slightly less saturated than they should be. The only exception is Honor 10 Lite, whose color gamut, on the contrary, goes beyond sRGB, which will give oversaturated shades.
However, Honor has a setting called “Normal” (colors), which makes the color gamut optimal.
The color temperature is overestimated to one degree or another in all smartphones, which will be reflected in the predominance of cool shades in the displayed picture, but using the display settings you can set warmer shades in absolutely all models. The color temperature is initially set closest to the optimal value of 6500K in realme C3, and you need to understand that the higher the indicator, the higher the brightness, so with the same settings, the maximum screen brightness of realme will be approximately on the same level as Redmi 8.
The anti-glare properties of all smartphones are at approximately the same good level, but the image on Redmi 8 and realme C3 will be visible best in case of strong external illumination (for example, under the bright sun) due to the higher maximum brightness value.
Why do you need a Huawei account
Huawei account is used for many operations on Honor and Huawei devices, it is especially important for Mate 30 Series smartphones, since these flagships do not support the use of Google services. The absence of Google services does not negate the ability to use the smartphone in full, including the use of applications for work (developed analogues of Word, Excel and other important applications, as well as all kinds of games, Huawei Pay and much more).
The presence of a profile allows the device owner to use all pre-installed programs and applications; most of them, with the exception of the simplest ones — alarm clock, calculator, require authorization. The owner will always be able to prove who the device belongs to (and find it if lost); this relationship with the device allows you to save personal data, important documents, photos and videos using cloud storage.
Cloud storage from smartphone developers is provided free of charge in the amount of 5 GB; to store larger information and data, you will need to purchase additional space. Without a verified account, you will not be able to purchase additional storage space, since the transaction receipt must be provided to a “person” and not a “machine”.
Huawei ID is used for:
- App purchases and subscriptions for apps installed from AppGallery.
- Use and synchronize the Huawei Health application between your smartphone and fitness bracelet.
- Purchase wallpapers, fonts and themes in the Themes app.
- Using Huawei Pay and the Wallet application.
- Performing backups using the Backups application.
- Using the functionality of the HiCare program.
You can log in to your account through the settings, where you can also register a new ID. Registering a new account is required if the user starts using a Huawei smartphone for the first time or cannot (does not want) to restore the previous one.
Cameras
As for cameras, it can be noted that Honor 10 Lite is the only one of all smartphones that can record video at 60 FPS, and it is also the only one that has a night shooting mode. The device also has a high-resolution front camera, but this does not guarantee a high-quality picture.
Samsung A20s boasts a wide-angle module, while realme C3 has a macro camera with a focal length of 4 cm, designed for shooting very close to the subject.

At night, the realme C3 takes the best pictures, but the Honor 10 Lite is also interesting with its night mode, which allows you to see some objects, but at the cost of increasing the overall amount of noise.
In other conditions, the pictures often come out more detailed not with the realme C3, but with its competitors, but it can be difficult to predict the result, since the automatic shooting mode of smartphones does not always work well.
At night, video is also recorded better by realme due to brighter frames, but in good lighting this also sometimes negatively affects the quality of the picture, which, as in the case of photographs, seems overexposed. The Samsung A20s seems to have the highest quality sound recording.

On the Honor 10 Lite, the ability to record at 60 FPS makes the picture noticeably smoother.

There are no obvious advantages in the front camera of Honor 10 Lite, despite the high resolution. In good lighting, the realme C3 camera unexpectedly performs better, but the Samsung A20s has too active enhancements that greatly blur the face.
Unlock methods
All heroes of the review have standard face and fingerprint unlocking methods, and the Honor device can additionally be unlocked via Bluetooth devices, for example, using a smart bracelet.
The approximate speed of unlocking is summarized in the table below — face unlock testing took place in good lighting. The unlocking accuracy of all devices is high — if there is a difference, it is not significant.

The fastest and most stable performance was found in the realme C3, and the slowest unlocking occurs on the Samsung smartphone — when unlocking by face, it has a rather long animation of turning on the screen.
Face unlocking in complete darkness is most successfully implemented on the Realme C3 due to a function that fills the screen with white in low light conditions. But at the same time, if the screen brightness is set to minimum, then the face in most cases is not recognized.
Samsung A20s and Redmi 8 smartphones, like realme, have an auto-increase in brightness when unlocked, but if the lock screen is not set to a completely white picture, then face recognition will not always occur. The Honor 10 Lite model does not have any functions that help unlock the screen in the dark.
For all smartphones, face unlocking does not occur if your eyes are closed, but in realme C3 you can enable the unlocking function with your eyes closed. The fingerprint scanners of the reviewed smartphones do not respond to wet fingers.

Since it is impossible to describe the process of flashing all devices, I will tell you how to flash the most common devices today based on qualcomm, exynos, mediatek, speadtrum, apple, kirin processors.
A couple of trivial tips to make life easier for craftsmen before flashing the firmware:
1) always flash the phone either from a laptop or from a computer connected to the UPS.
2) Before flashing the firmware, check the connector in the phone; if necessary, the connector must be cleaned of dirt, corrosion, etc.
2.1 If traces of corrosion are visible on the connector, you must first open the device and check for traces of liquid on the board.
3) do not use USB splitters, hubs, or ports on the system case for flashing USB firmware. Insert the cable into the USB port directly soldered to the motherboard.

Let’s start with the firmware. In my opinion, the simplest devices in terms of firmware are devices from Apple

A) normal. This is the normal mode, when the iphone/ipad/ipod boots up to the desktop, you can unlock the device and you just need to update the device, while saving the user data. You can artificially force an apple into dfu mode using a combination of the power and home keys, connect the apple to the PC, hold these keys until the device turns off, after the device turns off, continue to hold the power and home buttons for another 10 seconds, then release the power button, continue to hold the home button . And then we restore it through iTunes.

Фирменная утилита для прошивки называется SP FlashTool. Для смартфонов на ос андроид версии 4 и ниже используют версии SP FlashTool 3xx, для смартфонов с ос андроид 5 и выше используют версию программы SP FlashTool 5xx. Мтк устройства в режиме прошивки отображаются в диспетчере устройств как mediatek preloader usb vcom. Вводят в режим прошивки мтк устройства по разному. Чаще всего необходимо просто подключить к пк выключенное устройство. Иногда необходимо подключать с зажатой клавишей прибавления громкости. SP FlashTool очень хороший инструмент, с помощью которого можно не только записывать прошивку, но считывать и стирать разные области памяти. К примеру делать бекап imei номера или стирать блокировку frp.
Spreadtrum
— это процы для самых дешёвых планшетов и смартфонов. Тупее и глючнее устройств просто не найти(вру, есть ещё allwinner и rockchip, но в последние 3 года мне не принесли ни одного устройства на таком проце). Официальная программа для прошивки — upgradedownload или spdflashtool. Прошивка обычно в формате *.pac. Устройство на базе спридтрам в режиме прошивки обычно отображается в диспетчере устройств как sprd u2s diag. Загнать устройство на проце спридтрам в режим прошивки можно зажав обе клавиши громкости на выключенном устройстве и подключить к пк. Встречаются и другие комбинации, читайте инструкцию к своей модели, ибо универсальной инструкции не существует.
Sony.
Официальной утилиты (такой как odin для самсунгов) для прошивки смартфонов сони в сети нет. Но есть отличный инструмент от разработчика Androxyde. Называет FlashTool. After installing flashtool, you must install the firmware drivers in compatibility mode with windows vista sp2 as an administrator.

Huawei/Honor
This brand produces devices mainly based on its proprietary Hisilicon Kirin processor. But there are also budget phones based on media library processors, and there are also models with Qualcomm processors. Models with mtk can be flashed using sp flashtool, but these are firmware merged by users from their smartphones and it is not always possible to find the firmware you need. It’s the same with smart phones on qualcomm processors. There are firmwares for qfil, but these are also user dumps. There is no official program for flashing smart phones with kirin processors on the Internet. What to do if your Huawei or Honor won’t boot and resetting the settings doesn’t help?
1) eRecovery: with the smartphone/tablet turned off, hold down the volume up key and connect the charger, hold the button until you get to the treasured menu. We connect to wi-fi, and click the Download and install latest firmware button on the screen. Pay attention to the firmware version and region (smarts for the Russian Federation are sold with regional firmware under the code C10, for the European Union C432.)
2) three button method: download the firmware for your model and region
unpack it and copy it to the dload folder on the micro SD card. The smartphone must be charged at least 60%. We insert the micro SD card into the smartphone, hold down the volume up key, the volume down key, the power key on the smartphone, and hold all three keys until the firmware process begins.
Meizu.
With Meizu it’s the same story as with Huawei. There is no official flasher publicly available. There are models for mtk and custom firmware for sp flashtool. There are several models with Qualcomm processors, and recently exynos processors from Samsung have been installed in the Maze. How to sew a meiza? Meizu’s firmware is also divided by region. And just like with Huawei, you cannot flash global firmware into a device for China without dancing with a tambourine. Firmware is usually a zip archive. And so, with the smartphone turned off, hold down the volume up key and the power key, connect the smartphone to the PC, the computer recognizes the phone as a removable drive, copy the firmware file for your model and region to this removable drive (the name of the firmware file should be update. zip
). Then on the phone click on the update firmware icon. If you check the erase user data checkbox, all user data will be erased. If the phone had an unlock password, you will have to enter it. No other way.
Xiaomi
One of the most hemorrhoidal brands in terms of firmware. At the same time, my favorite one, because not everyone knows how to sew these smartphones. There are a lot of nuances, region, bootloader condition, year of manufacture, what percentage. I advise you to carefully read the instructions for each model.

In the end, I want to give a couple of tips on how to store firmware if you are going to do this constantly.
1) create a “firmware” directory on the hard drive partition, but not on the Windows partition. In this folder, make subdirectories with brand names, and inside the folder of one of the brands, place folders with models of this brand.
2) as soon as you have flashed the new device, transfer the archive with the firmware to the folder for this model. Save the version of the flasher and driver in the same folder. And also create a text document describing the firmware process, which keys you pressed, which checkboxes you checked in the flasher. Why, you ask? After all, everything is on the Internet! Today there is, but tomorrow the person who posted the firmware you need on a file hosting service will delete this file, because he needs free space in his account for other purposes. The organization where you work does not always have fast Internet, and firmware now weighs 3GB or more. It takes a long time to download, and then still look for instructions, if there is a lot of traffic, then every minute is worth its weight in gold.
3) do not delete old versions of firmware (often new firmware is more buggy than old ones, or the old firmware has a vulnerability to bypass the FRP lock, but the new one has covered it). The only brand whose old firmware versions will not be useful to you is Apple. You can’t fool these guys; iTunes won’t let you flash the old firmware. Other brands are also slowly introducing anti-kickback technology, but for now there are still loopholes.
4) monitor the status of your hard drive, make backups to the cloud, set up an antivirus. Those programs that the antivirus complains about, but you are sure of their safety, add them to the “antivirus white list” or store them in a password-protected archive.

Huawei is one of the leaders among Android smartphone manufacturers in terms of security. Reliable anti-virus protection, a fingerprint scanner and several blocking methods allow users to remain calm about their personal data.
But such protection can also play a cruel joke on the owner of the phone who has forgotten what password is set. To the delight of users with poor memory, in this case it is still possible to access the smartphone.
There are two ways to unlock a Huawei phone if you forgot your password (it doesn’t matter whether it’s a graphic, symbolic or PIN code).
