Meizu 15 has a more interesting display, thanks to Super AMOLED technology, so it boasts richer colors and deeper blacks. But the aspect ratio of this screen is 16:9, and not the now fashionable 19:9 with an eyebrow at the top of the screen, like the Honor 10.

It’s still difficult to say about the cameras, but apparently Meizu will be ahead here too, since the quality of its photographs taken even in low light conditions is impressive. In terms of performance, Honor 10 is equipped with a more powerful processor, so it has better performance.

Autonomy

None of these flagships can boast of high autonomy. But it’s easy to identify the winner in this pair: we have batteries with a capacity of 2560 mAh versus 3000 mAh.

Meizu Pro 6 under normal load lasts for 16 hours a day. This means that it can last 2 days (with a stretch) without recharging. Although with active use it will have to be charged every evening. Fortunately, fast charging mCharge 3.0 saves the situation — it only takes 1 hour to charge from zero to 100%.

Honor 8 is capable of working 16-18 hours a day. Thanks to Smart Power 4.0 energy saving technology, the phone will last just over a day and a half with normal use. Under heavy load, the phone will run out within a day.

By the way, fast charging technology is also implemented here, and in 30 minutes the battery is charged to 47%, a good result. With a 10-minute charge, the battery lasts for 2 hours of talk time or 6 hours of use in audio player mode.

Despite the different battery capacity, there is no difference in autonomy. Therefore, there is no winner in terms of battery.

The battery capacity is almost identical, for the MX5 (3150 mAh), for the Honor 7 it is 50 mAh more. Both smartphones have fast charging functionality.

As can be seen from the comparison, in principle, two smartphones from different Chinese brands with a similar set of characteristics are not inferior to each other. Therefore, it is difficult to say unequivocally that one of them is better. This can only be done if you highlight one specific characteristic, and not all the parameters of the smartphone as a whole. In fact, your choice will largely be determined by the design and ergonomics of the device.

Design and ergonomics

Both Honor and the device from Meizu are quite similar to each other: neat, thin. In both versions, the main part of the body is made of metal, namely aluminum. The upper and lower parts of the two devices are plastic, although they are successfully disguised as metal.

Honor’s corners are closer to square, they are very slightly rounded. The Meizu smartphone is more rounded and therefore more neat.

In terms of weight, Honor 7 is slightly heavier: it weighs 162 grams. The M X5 weighs only 150 grams. For flagships with a screen diagonal of more than 5 inches, this is generally a huge rarity. In the hand, such a difference is felt immediately. Conclusion: Honor 7 looks rougher and larger.

Both flagships have a fingerprint scanner, but it is located on different sides of the devices. Honor 7 is equipped with a modern advanced solution Fingerprint Sense 2.0. The scanner is located on the back of the smartphone, next to the main camera.

The MX5 uses a new version of mTouch 2.0 scanners for the brand. It is particularly accurate and has good speed. It is located on the front side of the device, under the screen.

It’s hard to say which is better in terms of design — Meizu or Honor. Both are very modern and stylish, but each user should make a choice according to their own taste.

Design: opt for glass body

Surprisingly, both models have a case made of impact-resistant glass, which is framed by a metal frame. In order to reduce fingerprints on the surface, not only the front panel, but also the back panel was equipped with an oleophobic coating.

The fashionable “bangs” instantly attracts attention on the display. In the “eight” it became a haven for the front camera, an infrared scanner and emitter, automatic brightness and proximity sensors, as well as an LED for missed events.

The number of sensors on the unibrow of the “ten” is more modest, since there is a selfie camera, a speaker, an event light indicator and a proximity/brightness sensor.

Its infrared port is located at the top end, next to the auxiliary microphone. The advantage is the 3.5 mm jack, since the modification from Xiaomi does not have such a port at all, as a result of which a special adapter is included in the package.

A significant difference when comparing Mi 8 with Honor 10 lies in the color palette of the case. The first model is presented in gold, black, white and blue. But the product from Huawei pleasantly surprises, because, in addition to black and silver colors, it boasts a gradient “shimmering green” and “shimmering blue”.

Display

Meizu MX5 is one of the few models of the brand and flagships in general with a 5.5-inch screen. Huawei Honor 7 is only 5.2 inches. The resolution in both versions is 1920×1080.

IPS touchscreen is a distinguishing feature for both devices. Honor uses Gorilla Glass to protect the front panel from damage.

Both MX5 and Honor 7 boast multi-patch technology, which allows you to simultaneously handle up to 10 touches on the screen.

Both devices are distinguished by high brightness. The image can be viewed normally even in very bright sunlight. But in Meizu the brightness is slightly better than in the “seventh” Honor, because it uses an AMOLED panel.

The oleophobic coating successfully protects the screen from marks both in the case of Meizu and in the case of Huawei.

Comparing Meizu and Honor in terms of display quality does not allow us to give preference to one or another flagship, both are quite high quality.

Display: incredible quality

Both flagships are equipped with high-quality displays that cope well with direct sunlight and convey all shades of the image clearly and with contrast.

The eighth version from Xiaomi has a 6.21-inch Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2248×1080 pixels. It’s nice to have a useful Always On Display feature, thanks to which information about time, date and notifications is constantly displayed on the screen.

But the opponent does not have such a function, which can only be regretted. And in general, it loses in terms of display capabilities. The physical capabilities of an IPS screen with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels are not enough to compare with the Super AMOLED matrix.

The frames of both smartphones are thin, almost invisible. The aspect ratio is the same – 19:9.

Which smartphone to choose?

It is difficult to tell at first glance whether a user should buy Honor 10 or Meiza 15. First of all, it is necessary to focus on individual wishes, capabilities and preferences. In a situation where a user wants a powerful phone with a good camera, as well as an original appearance, then it is better to pay attention to the Honor 10 smartphone.

If the owner needs excellent photo quality and multimedia capabilities, then it is preferable to purchase Meiza 15. In addition, this smartphone has high sound quality. But it’s worth considering that Meizu 15 has a rather outdated 16:9 aspect ratio. Sometimes users attribute this fact to the disadvantages of a mobile device.

Cameras

In terms of cameras, both Honor 7 and Meizu MX 5 are good phones. In both devices, the main camera has a 20 megapixel module. The aperture, however, is different. So, Huawei has F/2.0, and Meizu has F/2.2.

The front camera in Honor 7 is equipped with an 8 megapixel module and f/2.4 aperture. You can quickly take a photo from it by touching your finger to the fingerprint scanner. The advantage of the flagship is the presence of the “Smile Tracking” function. In addition, the device has such a useful mode as “Perfect Selfie”. Thanks to this, it is possible to use various effects and manually edit the captured image.

Meizu has a 5 MP front camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The downside is the lack of flash and autofocus. You can take pictures using the hardware volume button.

The lens in the Meizu device is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Huawei device uses ultra-strong sapphire glass for this purpose.

If we compare Huawei with Meizu in terms of front cameras, then it’s worth saying that selfies come out well in both versions, but with Honor they turn out to be of higher quality and more detailed. Shooting from the main camera (especially panoramic ones) is better with the MX 5.

Who should I give preference to?

As our review demonstrated, we could not find a clear leader. Both smartphones fully correspond to the title of flagships, practically not inferior to each other in information processing speed and performance. They are united by the presence of a facial recognition system and a fingerprint sensor, as well as the absence of an additional slot for a memory card.

The choice of the “ten” is supported by its more solid camera and lower price. But the Xiaomi Mi 8 is worth buying for those who prefer larger screens. Among the advantages of the device is a long battery life and the ability to choose a model with an internal memory capacity of up to 256 gigabytes.

Disadvantages of both phones

After analyzing user reviews, we were able to identify specific disadvantages of both flagships.

Cons of Honor 8

1. Bad music player with terrible sound. It can be treated by installing a new player from Google Play Market;
2. The body is slippery, so a bumper is highly recommended;
3. No headphones included;
4. There are complaints about the camera and the shooting of moving objects. To get a good shot, you need to reduce the shutter speed in manual mode (in automatic mode it is long, so the object in motion turns out blurry).

Cons of Pro 6

1. Noticeable heating under load, which is even more noticeable in combination with metal. There are reviews that this problem is solved by a new software update;
2. Black bars along the edges of the screen;
3. Noisy camera (poor lighting) and lack of optical stabilizer.

About companies

Both Meizu and Huawei are very well-known and important companies for the Chinese economy. Both specialize in the production of communication devices.

Huawei, however, has a longer history. The company was founded back in 1987. It developed quite quickly. Already in 2006, according to company statistics, more than 83,000 employees were registered here. In 2020, the company already had more than 100 offices around the world.

Particular attention is paid to scientific activities, and therefore Huawei has opened research centers in China, Russia, the USA, Sweden, and India. The company cooperates with such mobile operators as France Telecom, BT Group, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica.

The Meizu company was officially founded in 1998 thanks to a Chinese man with the pseudonym Jake Wonzu. At first, only MP3 players were produced under this brand, but over time, smartphones also began to appear on the market. The first serious developments and presentations of the brand’s products occurred in 2003.

Both brands offer their customers modern products with the latest features, and both offer virtually the same prices for their products. Therefore, it is not surprising that users often think about whose products are better — Meizu or Huawei.

When comparing two brands, it is appropriate to compare two smartphones from both manufacturers. Let’s try to figure out which is better — Meizu or Huawei Honor — based on the Meizu MX5 and Huawei Honor 7 models.

During the day, the pictures turn out incredibly beautiful and accurate, you don’t even need to use the HDR mode. The camera has the widest dynamic range, perfect color reproduction, white balance is always accurate, and focusing is carried out at high speed.

Thanks to two cameras, a background blur function has appeared, and in principle it works well, but sometimes it blurs the wrong areas (this rarely happens).

In low light there is always noise, but the colors remain accurate and rich even at night.

Software

Meizu X8 runs on Android 8 with the proprietary Flyme shell. This shell has a simple and at the same time attractive design with many useful solutions. For example, in addition to the traditional control keys at the bottom of the smartphone screen, you can use standard Android control gestures or use the mBack on-screen key.

Honor 10 Lite received the proprietary EMUI 9 shell, running on the Android 9 Pie operating system. This shell is constantly being improved and additions are made to it. Thus, in the latest update, EMUI 9 received a number of changes in the design of icons and wallpapers.

Application icons have now become flat and increased in size. This shell also has gesture control and a new voice assistant, and there is video recording from the screen up to 1 minute long. The updated shell also has improvements in performance and data reading speed, thanks to the new file system.

Algorithms for optimizing the operation of background applications based on artificial intelligence guarantee high smartphone performance even after long-term use. Also, it is worth noting the increased security of the system, thanks to the regular integration of security patches from Android.

Productivity

Honor 7 uses a single-chip eight-core HiSilicon Kirin 935 processor. Core frequencies are 1.5 and 2.2 GHz. The device works quite quickly, in fact it never freezes. The processor built into the “seventh” Honor is capable of competing with such a powerful system as Qualcomm Snapdragon, which is used by Samsung.

For Meizu MX 5, manufacturers decided to use the no less successful and well-known MediaTek single-chip system. Like Honor, the latter has 8 cores, each core with a frequency of 2.2 GHz.

Both devices have the same amount of RAM — 3 GB each (2 GB of which remain free).

The built-in memory in Honor 7 is 16 GB, but more than 9.85 GB of this is used for the smartphone’s own needs. If desired, the user has the opportunity to expand this volume up to 128 GB using a microSD memory card.

Meizu MX5 is available with various internal memory options: 16, 32, 64 GB. This device does not allow the use of additional memory cards, but it is possible to connect flash drives via microUSB to transfer information.

When thinking about which phone is better — Honor or Meizu, the user must consider his needs and the required amount of memory.

TOP processors for flagships – that’s exactly what these chips are. To determine which one is better, it is necessary to compare in one test.

MediaTek Helio X25 is a more advanced version of the Helio X20, which received “overclocked” cores with a higher frequency. It is worth noting that this is not a fundamentally new chip, but only an improved one, and its performance increase was no more than 10% (when compared with Helio X20).

It uses 10 cores, a three-cluster structure:

1. 4×1.4 GHz (Cortex-A53);
2. 4×2.0 GHz (Cortex-A53);
3. 2×2.5 GHz (Cortex-A72).

The operation of a chip with this architecture is clear in principle: simple tasks are processed by the first cluster with four low-performance Cortex-A53 cores. If necessary, a second cluster can be connected, but demanding tasks always require the connection of high-performance Cortex-A72 cores.

The Mali-T880 graphics accelerator (exactly the same in the Huawei smartphone) is high-performance and can support displays with 2K resolution, which indicates its flagship purpose. By mid-2020 it will be able to compete with all modern games.

The result of testing this chip on Meizu Pro 6 smartphones shows a result of almost 100,000 points.

This result is by no means the best among flagships, but it cannot be called bad. This is a solid 4.

The heart of Huawei Honor 8 is the proprietary HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, made using a 16nm process technology. Unlike its competitor (we mean Helio X25), it uses 8 cores:

1. 4×1.8 GHz (Cortex-A53);
2. 4×2.53 GHz (Cortex-A72).

If you believe the company’s statement, the performance of this processor has increased by 40% compared to its predecessor, and battery power consumption has decreased by 60%. Now there is a new and more powerful version of the Kirin 955, but it is only slightly faster.

The result of testing the processor in the flagship Huawei Honor 8 shows a result of 87979 points.

Therefore, HiSilicon Kirin 950 is inferior to MediaTek Helio X25, so the flagship Meizu Pro 6 wins.

But modifications of specific Xiaomi smartphones are not very different from the originals.

If Xiaomi focuses on developing smartphones for the budget and mid-price segment, then Huawei creates products for users with different incomes. There are both cheap phone models with average functionality and quite expensive flagship-level smartphones.

Although, more recently, Xiaomi also introduced a rather expensive flagship Mi 10 Pro, thereby taking a step towards conquering the previously ignored high-price and premium segments of the market. So far this is only an application for leadership, but a very convincing one.

In the case of Huawei, the overpayment is quite noticeable, but the starting price of Xiaomi smartphones looks more tempting. Inside the gadgets there is a 3400 mAh battery. From this I would like to conclude that the duration of operation in offline mode will be the same. In fact, despite the identical battery capacity, there are significant differences in terms of autonomy.

The Snapdragon 845 processor, combined with optimized MIUI firmware, produces results much higher than its competitor. A device from Xiaomi can last about a day and a half without recharging, and a gadget from Huawei can last a maximum of a day. A similar situation occurs when working under load.

To speed up the charging process, phones provide the Quick Charge 4.0 function via the USB Type-C port.

They became popular in Russia. The reason is high quality, good service, affordable price with good components. The manufacturer does not have its own hardware production base, so it orders components from third-party manufacturers. For example, processors are mainly purchased from Qualcomm (rarely from Mediatek), a leading developer of mobile processors. Qualcomm, in turn, uses solutions from another brand — ARM.

Note that the decision to use Qualcomm products is a plus, since the manufacturer’s chipsets are powerful with low power consumption (especially the flagship ones — Snapdragon 821, 835, 845). The second feature of Xiaomi is the MIUI shell, which is placed on top of pure Android. Many users highlight it as a disadvantage due to the unusual arrangement of settings and elements. Some smartphones under this shell do not have the Russian language (you have to use third-party firmware), and the bootloader may be blocked. To unlock it, you have to apply through a Chinese website.

There are user complaints about poor system optimization under the MIUI shell, which is why platforms even with capacious batteries (mostly 3000 mAh) are discharged during the day. For example, one of the most popular models, Xiaomi Redmi 4, received a 4100 mAh battery, although its autonomy is not impressive — a day of work with the screen illuminated for 5 hours.

Some users (units) complain about advertising built into the firmware. From time to time, when using the phone, an advertising message pops up about some kind of investment. To be honest, I personally was not able to see advertising in the firmware, although I have experience using Xiaomi. This may only apply to some models.

As you can see, there are some differences, but the main one is the processor. But first you need to touch the display.

Screen

Meizu X8 has a 6.2-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18.5 to 9. It uses an IPS matrix with a screen resolution of 1080 by 2220 pixels. The display has wide viewing angles and high contrast. The picture is bright and clearly visible in the sun, thanks to the anti-reflective coating. The settings menu includes a blue filter and night mode, as well as automatic brightness adjustment.

The Honor 10 Lite screen also uses an IPS matrix with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels. The screen itself has a diagonal of 6.21 inches with an aspect ratio of 19.5 to 9. The smartphone settings include adaptive brightness control, color temperature selection, night mode, eye protection and many other settings.

Screens

Let’s start with the Pro 6 smartphone from Meizu. It uses an AMOLED display developed by Samsung. The pixel density is 423 ppi, there is a Pentile effect. brightness and contrast parameters are 350 cd/m2 and 10000:1, respectively.

When tilted, the smartphone display fades a little, but only slightly. In general, viewing angles are maximum.

The display settings differ — you can select color temperature, saturation and activate eye protection. There is a well-promoted 3D Press technology, thanks to which the sensor reacts to the force of pressing the screen. Depending on the force of pressing, different actions will be performed (this or that information will be displayed on the screen).

There are practical benefits from this technology, but it should not be overestimated.
