Battery
Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. The battery life of this particular machine isn’t good.
Blue light emissions
Installing our Health-Guard profile not only eliminates PWM but also reduces the harmful Blue Light emissions while keeping the colors of the screen perceptually accurate. If you’re not familiar with the Blue light, the TL;DR version is – emissions that negatively affect your eyes, skin, and your whole body. You can find more information about that in our dedicated article on Blue Light.
Buy our profiles
Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package are meant for HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000) configurations with 17.3″ 144Hz FHD IPS AUO AUO0A97.
Cpu options
The HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000) can be configured with the following CPU options – Intel Core i5-11400H, Core i7-11800H, and Core i9-11900H.
Cpu temperature, stress test, benchmarks
Before starting this test, we opened the performance control module, switched the Omen 17 (2021) to violent mode, and adjust the fan speed to the highest.
At a room temperature of 26°C, first, we used the AIDA64 single-baked FPU for the processor stress test. The HWiNFO64 identification shows that after 20 minutes of operation, the power consumption of Core i7-11800H can be stabilized at 91W, while the complete core frequency is stabilized at 3.9GHz, and its temperature is 96°C.
With the help of a powerful heat dissipation system, the Omen 17 (2021) can make the Core i7-11800H processor run up to the full turbo frequency under the load of the AVX-512 instruction set. The performance release can also reach the first echelon of Omen 17 (2021).
Next, we have done the GPU (RTX 3080 Mobile) stress test through Furmark (application) and used the GPU-Z to monitor. It is found that the power consumption of the RTX 3080 Mobile GPU can reach 165W. On reaching the maximum power consumption, the GPU core temperature was 71°C.
Display quality
Our HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000) has a Full HD IPS panel that works at 144Hz and has a model number AUO AUO0A97. Its diagonal is 17.3″ (43.9 cm), and the resolution is 1920 х 1080 pixels. The screen ratio is 16:9, and we are looking at a pixel density of – 127 ppi, and a pitch of 0.2 х 0.2 mm.
This panel has comfortable viewing angles. We offer images at 45° to evaluate image quality.
Also, a video with locked focus and exposure.
The measured maximum brightness of 353 nits in the middle of the screen and 350 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 6%. The Correlated Color Temperature on a white screen is 7290K – colder than the 6500K optimum for sRGB.
In the illustration below you can see how the display performs from a uniformity perspective. In other words, the leakage of light from the light source.
Values of dE2000 over 4.0 should not occur, and this parameter is one of the first you should check if you intend to use the laptop for color-sensitive work. The contrast ratio is very good – 1590:1.
To make sure we are on the same page, we would like to give you a little introduction to the sRGB color gamut and the Adobe RGB. To start, there’s the CIE 1976 Uniform Chromaticity Diagram that represents the visible specter of colors by the human eye, giving you a better perception of the color gamut coverage and the color accuracy.
Inside the black triangle, you will see the standard color gamut (sRGB) that is being used by millions of people on HDTV and on the web. As for the Adobe RGB, this is used in professional cameras, monitors, etc for printing. Basically, colors inside the black triangle are used by everyone and this is an essential part of the color quality and color accuracy of a mainstream notebook.
Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well.
The yellow dotted line shows HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000)’s color gamut coverage.
Its display covers 94% of the sRGB/ITU-R BT.709 (web/HDTV standard) in CIE1976.
Our “Design and Gaming” profile delivers optimal color temperature (6500K) at 140 cd/m2 luminance and sRGB gamma mode.
We tested the accuracy of the display with 24 commonly used colors like light and dark human skin, blue sky, green grass, orange, etc. You can check out the results at factory condition and also, with the “Design and Gaming” profile.
Below you can compare the scores of HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000) with the default settings (left), and with the “Gaming and Web design” profile (right).
Gaming comfort
The center of the keyboard gets a bit warm during gaming. The WASD area and the palm rest section are slightly warm but comfortable enough for long hours of usage.

Hp omen 17 (2021): cooling system
The HP Omen laptop comes with a fully upgraded cooling module to get the best performance. It uses two fans with 83 high-density fan blades, which can effectively increase the amount of ventilation. This cooling system keeps the hardware temperature, and the surface temperature of the fuselage in a lower space and allows the noise to be reasonably controlled.
In addition, the OMEN Gaming Hub (software) on the HP Omen 17 (2021) can also be the most powerful assist in your game battlefield with robust performance tuning functions and many rich custom settings.
Specifically, players can choose two different modes, “Balance” and “Rage” in the performance control module of the HP Game Control Center (OMEN Gaming Hub), which can meet the different needs of players.
At the same time, a DIY fan adjustment option has been added under the switching module mode, in which the players can flexibly adjust the fan speed as per their needs.
Hp omen 17 (2021): cpu and gpu
In terms of hardware, the new HP Omen 17 has almost similar hardware compared with other competitors. It uses the combination of Intel Core i7-11800H and RTX 3080 GPU, which is mandatory for gaming these days.
This 11th Gen Intel’s Core is based on Tiger Lake core and built with a 10nm SuperFin process. This chip comes with eight cores and 16 threads and has a base frequency of 2.3GHz, while the maximum frequency is 4.60GHz. The total cache capacity is 24MB.
It is worth mentioning that the Core i7-11800H SoC also features 11th Generation Intel UHD Mobile Graphics.
The RTX 3080 mobile graphics card has been used on Omen 17 (2021). It uses GA104 core, including 6144 CUDA units, the second-largest RT Core, and the third-generation Tensor Core. The total memory of the GPU is 8GB (Dedicated GDDR6).
The GPU has a bus width of 256 bits and is based on an 8nm manufacturing process. The RTX 3080 Mobile GPU has a base frequency of 1110 MHz, while it can be overclocked to a maximum 1750MHz.
Hp omen 17 (2021): display
The gaming laptop features a 17.3 inches LED Backlit Anti-Glare 16:9 display. A three-sided narrow frame design has been used on the screen, giving players a larger field of view and a more substantial visual impact.
In addition, the display is packed with a combination of Quad-HD resolution (2560*1440p) and 165Hz refresh rate, which helps in getting the high-definition gaming. The display also got 100% sRGB high color gamut, providing higher pixel density and making the picture more detailed.
The display has also achieved the 3ms response, which can effectively avoid stuttering and ghosting. One more thing must be mentioned: HP Omen 17 (2021) screen not only supports DC dimming but has also passed the Eyesafe Rheinland certification, which can effectively filter blue light and reduce eye fatigue.
On the top-middle bezel of the display, we have a very tiny webcam that seems ordinary, but things are not like that. It is the HP Wide Vision 720p HD camera with integrated dual array digital microphones.
Hp omen 17 (2021): keyboard
It features a mechanical keyboard (aluminum surface) with an optical axis that allows for full-key conflict-free operation. While maintaining the slim design, the optical axis mechanical keyboard provides a more stable signal and has a longer service life than traditional mechanical keyboards.
Compared to a traditional membrane keyboard, the optical axis mechanical keyboard can significantly improve complex combo operations in games and typing feel in everyday use.
The keyboard still lacks a keypad, but that isn’t a deal-breaker for a gaming laptop. Other notable features like RGB backlighting, a shadow-black colored keyboard area, NKRO Anti-Ghosting Key technology (which prevents additional keys from being registered once the rollover limit is reached), and an optical switch are also included.
Max cpu load
In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

Ports
Most of the ports are placed on the left side – there’s a charging plug, RJ-45 connector, USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with HP Sleep and Charge support, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 4 (with Display Port and charging capabilities), audio jack, and an SD card slot. The right side houses two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports.
Pwm (screen flickering)
Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is an easy way to control monitor brightness. When you lower the brightness, the light intensity of the backlight is not lowered, but instead turned off and on by the electronics with a frequency indistinguishable to the human eye.
HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000)’s display is PWM-free. This makes the panel comfortable for prolonged periods of working or gaming, without harming your eyes in this aspect.

When it comes to GPU thermals, the Balanced mode is (again) the right choice. In longer loads, the core clock is just 24 MHz lower compared to the Performance mode (and 9°C hotter) so performance is unharmed but the laptop is much quieter in Balanced mode. Interestingly enough, using the fans at their Max RPM mode doesn’t contribute to better core temperature or frequencies.
Response time (gaming capabilities)
We test the reaction time of the pixels with the usual “black-to-white” and “white-to-black” method from 10% to 90% and vice versa.
We recorded Fall Time Rise Time = 11 ms. Gamers should be happy.
After that, we test the reaction time of the pixels with the usual “Gray-to-Gray” method from 50% White to 80% White and vice versa between 10% and 90% of the amplitude.
Sound
HP Omen 17 (2021, 17-ck0000)’s Bang & Olufsen speakers produce a sound of relatively good quality. Moreover, its low, mid, and high tones are clear of deviations.
