What should I do if the microphone does not work or only works on speakerphone?

In situations where the microphone works exclusively on speakerphone, and the recovery methods described above did not bring the desired result, all that remains is to contact Huawei support. To do this, just visit the official Russian-language website of the manufacturer and leave a request, describing the current situation in detail.

How to set up the microphone in a Huawei smartphone ?

During a conversation on a Huawei phone, the interlocutors complain of poor hearing. Apparently it’s a microphone issue. How to configure the microphone?

To adjust the microphone volume, you need to enter the phone’s engineering menu. How to do this has already been described in more detail, for example, here. I can add that initially it is better to write down the original settings so that you can return to them if necessary.

the author of the question chose this answer as the best

There may be several reasons. Perhaps the microphone itself is bad. Therefore, it is worth using a sound recording to make sure that the voice is recorded well. If the sound comes out bad, then there is nothing you can do, you need to contact the experts. If the sound is good, then perhaps the reason is poor call quality or poor dynamics of the interlocutors. And they should make changes to the phone settings.

To do this, dial one of the combinations:

  • *#*#3646633#*#*
  • *#*#4636#*#*
  • *#15963#*

Then go to the Audio and Microphone settings. And there we already raise the volume to an acceptable level. And if something happens, we reduce it to the original size.

You need to find and enter the phone’s engineering menu to configure the microphone (as well as other functions). Next, having saved the original settings, you need to configure the microphone parameters here. We configure the sound playback parameters in detail in the Audio option, as well as Microphone. Here you can adjust the volume level and other settings in your Huawei smartphone.

To configure the microphone in a Huawei smartphone, you need to enter the phone’s engineering menu. To do this, of course, you will need to find it initially, and it is located in the microphone settings. After you adjust the necessary parameters in the settings in this section, you will be required to save them.

To change the parameter options, you can go to a section such as Audio and there the microphone according to volume indicators, in general it is very easy and accessible to configure.

You need to go to change your phone (I mean the engineering menu).

Next in this menu, find the microphone settings.

Next, configure the microphone at your discretion and, most importantly, save the changes, otherwise all your settings will not be saved.

Where is the microphone of Honor and Huawei?

Finding a microphone on a smartphone or tablet is easy. It is usually located on the bottom panel of the device, so to find the sensor you need, you just need to carefully inspect the phone body. At the same time, it is not recommended to disassemble the smartphone to look at its design. Such actions will void the warranty and can lead to serious damage. It’s smarter and safer to immediately contact a service center and use the help of experienced technicians.

Troubleshooting

If the microphone on Android does not work after exposure to moisture or mechanical impact, then it is unlikely that you will be able to fix it on your own. It is much more realistic to deal with clogging and software errors.

One of the symptoms of a clog is that the microphone may partially work, but the sound is greatly distorted, so that the other person can hear almost nothing. If you encounter such a problem, blow out and carefully clean the small hole in the housing, which acts as a sound trap. Do not apply serious force, otherwise you may damage the microphone.

If cleaning does not help, but you are sure that there are no hardware problems, use software troubleshooting methods:

  1. Open settings and reset. Please back up your data before rolling back as it will be deleted. Turn on contact synchronization, transfer photos and videos to a memory card or computer.

  2. Reflash the device.

Use official or proven custom firmware to eliminate conflicts between the system and hardware.

Setting

Setting up the microphone is possible, but it is also not recommended. To set the optimal sensor operating parameters, you need:

  1. dial the special command *#*#3646633#*#* and call the engineering menu;
  2. open the desired section (mic);
  3. adjust its operation, consistently changing the parameters and increasing the quality of sound transmission.

It is important to emphasize that on certain phone models the mentioned engineering menu does not allow making changes, only allowing you to check the operating parameters of the device. It will not be possible to configure the smartphone using the described method.

How to turn on the microphone on honor and huawei?

The question of how to enable the microphone on Honor and Huawei does not make sense, since it is enabled by default. But the user could:

  • disable it in the settings of various programs and applications;
  • drop your smartphone into water;
  • do not clean the device from dust and dirt for a long time;
  • The update was installed incorrectly.

Also, sometimes troubles are caused by malfunctions or errors by developers who created a low-quality update, due to which some of the functions of the smartphone do not work. Other causes of problems are extremely rare.

How to unlock access to the microphone?

To unblock access, you should use the tips already mentioned above and:

  1. remove the cover;
  2. remove stickers and decorations if they block access;
  3. carefully remove dirt (without using water).

Usually the listed actions are enough to achieve the desired result. Otherwise, it is recommended to immediately contact the service center without trying to fix the situation yourself.

Reducing sensitivity

To reduce the microphone sensitivity on Android, turn on the engineering menu and omit the selected values. You can also install a number of software tools that are available in the Play Market.

Settings are changed in the Audio panel and in the Mic sub-item. Having opened it, you should determine the optimal level from 1 to 6 and confirm your choice with the Set button.

Turn on speakerphone on Samsung Galaxy

Speakerphone is a standard tool for almost all mobile phones from the Samsung Galaxy line. In the absence of a proprietary headset with an integrated microphone or a hands-free wireless device, it is considered the only safe way to talk on the phone during calls while driving. In most licensed firmware, this mode is activated with one click. In third-party firmware, there may be no button to launch it. Let’s look at how to turn on speakerphone on your Samsung Galaxy S4.

Turn on speakerphone through the standard Samsung menu

In many smartphones running on the Android operating system, the hands-free mode is activated as follows:

  1. Dial the number of the required subscriber and wait for a connection with him or pick up the handset when there is an incoming call.
  2. In the call window, look for a virtual button that resembles a speaker.
  3. Click on it.

If the speakerphone is turned on, you will hear the caller through the external speaker. The sound volume can be adjusted using the mechanical Volume Up/Volume Down keys.

If the “Speaker” button is missing when making a call or the speakerphone does not want to turn on using it, try opening the settings panel on your Samsung Galaxy by swiping your finger down from the top of the screen. Then in the window that appears, click on the picture with the corresponding name.

If this action does not help achieve the desired result, restart the phone. It is possible that the required function is simply frozen, which sometimes happens with software.

Using an alternative contacts application

If the mobile device manufacturer did not bother to equip its product with speakerphone or it does not work on the existing firmware, you can try installing an alternative version of the program on Samsung that is responsible for incoming/outgoing calls. To do this you need:

  1. From the desktop of the device, enter the standard for Andro />

Sound — solving sound problems on android devices

05/17/2021

  • Android app Sound, version: 2.6.7.2, price: Free

Surely, at least sometimes, problems arise on your devices that you would like to fix without resorting to various complex methods. Unfortunately, this is not always possible, but, for example, some difficulties with sound playback on Android devices can be easily solved by simply installing the application, although not all users know about this. One day I found such an application while I was looking in a search engine for ways to solve my problems.

In this review we will talk about the Sound software, which someone may remember under the old name — AudioRoutingSettings, which even better reflected the essence of the application (it is already more or less clear that this is some kind of audio router, and not just software that displays information about the sound capabilities of an Android device). Even though the name has changed, the application has not become any worse — on the contrary, additional functionality has appeared.

In what cases can the application be useful? I don’t think I can list all the use cases; I’ll only tell you about the most common and known to me.

Imagine a situation where your Android device refuses to recognize headphones, speakers, or it does not transmit sound to the car radio when connected to AUX. Dancing with a tambourine does not help, and the sound continues to come through the ringing speaker of your device. There are probably no universal ways to solve the problem, and it’s not always possible to fix the situation, but you can try installing Sound, and after some simple setup, the sound will probably come through gadgets that didn’t work with your Android device before.

Similar troubles can await you, for example, when installing custom firmware — sometimes headsets stop working or sound comes from both speakers and headphones at the same time. Therefore, now there are firmwares in which Sound is already pre-installed — this is understandable, because it is easier for the user, especially if the problem cannot be solved otherwise.

Or another case: something unpleasant happens to the 3.5 connector, which leads to its breakdown (although it is possible that it’s all about the firmware, not the hardware), as a result of which the device thinks that headphones are inserted. Naturally, the sound is not reproduced through the speakers, which may even force the user to send the device for repair. This, of course, is sometimes desirable to do, but it is not at all necessary if it is possible to install Sound.

Another feature of the application is to turn on the sound through the headset, but while using the microphone of the Android device at the same time (in the Wired set setting/Wired set microphone menu). This option will also be useful to someone, because sometimes the microphones in headsets are not of the best quality, and modern smartphones can have several microphones installed at once with an excellent noise reduction system.

As you can see, a software can always come in handy, especially since sometimes, after the necessary settings, it can be removed altogether. But personally, I keep it in the system just in case.

What else could I do? Let’s say that my speakerphone doesn’t work, I’ll end up using the option that allows you to automatically switch to speakerphone immediately after starting a call (Phone call audio/Speaker).

They say that on some devices you can output all sound signals (including music in the player) through the speaker, but I was not able to do this. Softinka kindly warned that this function does not always work.

Or if you want to turn off a wired headset without removing it from the connector, then this also couldn’t be easier. In the “audio” settings, select the “Speaker” item, and you don’t even have to worry about the fact that the headset icon does not disappear from the top panel — sound will no longer be sent to the headphones.

The program settings are quite simple (but there are many of them) — if not all, then most of the points should definitely be clear, despite the fact that the official language of the application is English. First think about what you want to do, and then find the appropriate item on the menu. But craftsmen were able to translate the software into Russian — I downloaded the version with a Russian-language interface on the 4PDA forum. I noticed that the application is not very discussed on the forum — only six pages of posts is not much, but mentions of Sound in other topics are already more common.

And this is what version 2.5.8.0 looks like with translation.

There is also a convenient widget that is placed on the desktop, thereby simplifying the process of switching between speakers and headphones — this is its only purpose.

Perhaps the most important disadvantage of Sound is that the free version may expire and then you will have to either purchase the full version for 225 rubles, or use specialized forums, where, usually, everything is free.

A message in the free version of the application appears before each launch.

I will also highlight additional points that I liked. In the settings of a wired headset, it is possible to set automatic playback even after the headset has been removed from the device (usually followed by a pause). Everything works in the standard Android player. Among other things, in the settings there is a bar with which you can set the volume when you connect headphones. This is done by bypassing the standard volume settings used in the operating system.

The text-to-speech settings are also quite interesting. So, you can easily prohibit or allow the playback of background sounds and, thus, stop being distracted by what you don’t need, or, on the contrary, you will be aware of all events.

After experimenting a little, I decided to add to the review an interesting, although already well-known, way of using Sound. Surely you know that not all smartphones and tablets can listen to FM radio without headphones connected. So, the software solves this problem by simulating a connected headset. All that remains is to go to the “Radio” application and select “speaker” as the sound source in the settings. It is not always possible to obtain acceptable signal quality without an antenna — it all depends on the device and where you listen to the radio. This can happen on the street, near a window, or somewhere deep inside the room. In order to amplify the signal, metal objects are usually used: without any effort (so as not to damage anything), insert the object all the way into the 3.5 mm jack, and the antenna replacement is ready. I used a pump needle, after which the signal improved significantly, although sometimes the needle has to be twisted in every possible way, thereby sort of adjusting the signal ☺. But some devices (for example, the Megafon Login 2 smartphone) pick up a signal surprisingly well even without an antenna.

Set only one item to simulate a headset.

Before applying the settings.

After.

I don’t even know if the application has direct competitors. I’ve never seen anything like this, and I haven’t read any recommendations about installing analogues from other users. Yes, there are many applications that, in one way or another, interact with headsets and sound, but this is all a little different, so I don’t see the point in listing them. Sound stands out for its capabilities and in some cases it is simply irreplaceable, therefore it deserves the highest rating.

However, it is worth understanding that Sound is not a universal remedy for all ills — for example, on my Android TV set-top box after the firmware there was no sound coming through the TV speakers, and there is still no sound even after installing the software. But there are wireless headsets, and here Sound can again be useful. Sometimes, to solve all problems, it is enough to just install the application without configuring anything additional. Well, sometimes you have to experiment. Since I mentioned the Android TV set-top box, when using a remote control with a speaker and microphone, users often fail to redirect the sound to the TV speakers. Can you already guess which application can help in this case? ☺

The weight of the application after installation is less than 1 MB, and it usually takes up no more than 10 MB in RAM, which is very economical. The software works even on the old Android 2.1, but problems may occur with some devices, according to the information on the application’s official forum.

The speaker should now work normally for incoming and outgoing calls.

Turning on the microphone through headphones

If the microphone in the headphones is disconnected, this may be due to the following reasons:

  1. Problems with the recording sensor or damage to the connector. The check is performed by connecting a third-party device.
  2. By selecting zero value in the sensitivity settings.

It is better to entrust the problem to specialists. Independent attempts often do not pay off and lead to additional failures.

If you have skills in managing the developer section, you should open the Earphones and Mic item and change the signal level.

How to mute the microphone on an Android phone

This can be done in several ways: using the engineering menu or through special applications. In the first case, you need to repeat the steps that were described in the first section, but set all values to zero. The main thing is not to forget to save the changes.

The second method is easier for those who have not worked in the engineering menu and do not want to break anything. Just download any blocker or antispyware application. The most popular: Mute Mic and Microphone Block-Anti malware. After downloading and installing, you can turn off the microphone in a couple of clicks.

Lack of permissions is one of the reasons why the microphone does not work in WhatsApp Android

Thus, it was explained how to turn off the microphone on Android headphones and how to configure it. Often a module may not work due to the fact that it is occupied by various background processes. You can configure them in the autorun menu, where you can enable and disable various services and programs.

Screen

Huawei P20 Lite is equipped with an IPS display covered with 2.5D glass with sloping edges. The screen is elongated in height and has dimensions of 64 × 134 mm (aspect ratio approximately 19:9) with a diagonal of 5.84 inches and a resolution of 1080 × 2280 (dot density about 432 ppi).

It is possible to use automatic brightness adjustment based on the operation of the ambient light sensor. Multi-touch tests diagnose support for 10 simultaneous touches.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections, Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the sample under study.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface that is scratch-resistant. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are approximately the same as those of the Google Nexus 7 (2020) screen (hereinafter simply Nexus 7).

The screen of the Huawei P20 Lite is slightly lighter (brightness according to photographs is 123 versus 118 for the Nexus 7). The ghosting of reflected objects in the Huawei P20 Lite screen is very weak, this indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS — One Glass Solution type screen).

Due to the smaller number of boundaries (glass/air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of intense external illumination, but their repair in the case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be replaced.

On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, which is noticeably better in efficiency than that of the Nexus 7, so fingerprints are removed much more easily and appear at a lower speed than in the case of regular glass.

With manual brightness control and displaying the white field in full screen, the maximum brightness value was about 450 cd/m², the minimum was 1.8 cd/m². The maximum brightness is high, so, given the good anti-glare properties, screen readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at an acceptable level.

In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. There is automatic brightness adjustment based on the light sensor (it is located to the left of the front speaker grille). In automatic mode, as external lighting conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases.

The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider, with which the user can try to set the desired brightness level in the current conditions. If you do not interfere, in complete darkness the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 7 cd/m² (dark), in an artificially lit office (approximately 550 lux) it sets it to 180 cd/m² (normal), in a very bright environment (corresponds to clear lighting outdoors during the day, but without direct sunlight — 20,000 lux or a little more)

increases to 450 cd/m² (to the maximum, as needed). The backlight brightness level depends on the position of the slider in dark and average conditions, and in very bright environments it is always set to maximum. We weren’t happy with the default result, so we moved the slider a little to the right in complete darkness and for the three conditions above, we got 12, 190 and 450 cd/m² (the perfect combination).

It turns out that the auto-brightness function works adequately and allows the user to customize their work to individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.

This smartphone uses an IPS type matrix. Microphotographs show typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even with large viewing deviations from perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. For comparison, here are photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Huawei P20 Lite and Nexus 7, while the screen brightness is initially set to approximately 200 cd/m², and the color balance on the camera is forced to switch to 6500 K.

White field perpendicular to the screens:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field.

And test picture:

The colors on the Huawei P20 Lite screen are clearly oversaturated, and the color balance varies between screens.

Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors have not changed much on both screens, but on the Huawei P20 Lite the contrast has decreased to a greater extent due to the greater highlighting of blacks.

And the white field:

The brightness at an angle of the screens has decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but the screen of the Huawei P20 Lite is still slightly darker. When deviated diagonally, the black field brightens greatly and acquires a purple tint. The photographs below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):

And from another angle:

When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good:

The contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high — about 930:1. The black-white-black response time is 19 ms (9 ms on, 10 ms off). The transition between halftones of gray 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 32 ms.

The gamma curve, constructed using 32 points with equal intervals based on the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.20, which is equal to the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve noticeably deviates from the power-law dependence:

This device has a dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness with a non-obvious dependence on time and on the nature of the displayed image. As a result, the resulting dependence of brightness on hue (gamma curve) does not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential display of shades of gray on almost the entire screen.

For this reason, we carried out a number of tests — determining contrast and response time, comparing black illumination at angles (however, as always) when displaying special templates with a constant average brightness, and not monochromatic fields in full screen.

Color gamut is wider than sRGB and almost equal to DCI:

Let’s look at the spectra:

The spectra of the components are well separated, which results in a wide color gamut. For a consumer device, a wide color gamut is not an advantage, but a significant disadvantage, since as a result, the colors of images — drawings, photographs and films — oriented to the sRGB space (and the vast majority of them) have an unnatural saturation. This is especially noticeable on recognizable shades, such as skin tones. The result is shown in the photographs above.

The balance of shades on the scale is a compromise, since the color temperature is significantly higher than the standard 6500 K, but the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is below 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, color temperature and ΔE change little from hue to hue — this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance.

This device has the ability to adjust the color balance by adjusting the hue on the color wheel.

On the graphs above, the curves are Without corr. correspond to the results without any color balance correction, and the curves Corr. — data obtained after shifting a point on the circle to the position indicated in the image above. It can be seen that the change in balance corresponds to the expected result, since the color temperature has approached the standard value, and ΔE has changed insignificantly.

There is a fashionable setting that allows you to reduce the intensity of the blue component.

Marketers tried to intimidate the user in order to show the level of care of the manufacturer. Of course, there is no harmful UV radiation (see spectrum above), and there is no eye fatigue caused specifically by blue light.

In principle, bright light can lead to disruption of the daily (circadian) rhythm (see article about the iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch display), but everything can be solved by adjusting the brightness to a comfortable level, and distorting the color balance , reducing blue’s contribution makes absolutely no sense.

To summarize: the screen has a high maximum brightness and has good anti-glare properties, so the device can be used outdoors even on a sunny summer day without any problems. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level.

It is also acceptable to use a mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works adequately. Also, the advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, the absence of an air gap in the layers of the screen and flicker, high contrast and good (after correction) color balance.

The disadvantages are the low stability of black to the deviation of the gaze from perpendicular to the screen plane and an excessively wide color gamut. However, given the importance of characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high, but you should be prepared for strange and unnatural colors in photographs and videos.
